Any point in a cleaner?

Planning ahead for a move in a few weeks. It’s taken a lot longer to get to exchange than we thought so we’ve saved some extra money and are thinking of using some of it for a cleaner at our current house before we move.

Thinking the logistics through though I’m wondering how effective it will be? If they come ahead of the move there will be boxes everywhere/it will be hard to clean and if they come on moving day then I’m concerned about COVID as we’ll be there and also getting movers to help (as family won’t be able to). I wouldn’t want anyone to feel unsafe.

Potentially we could have upstairs clear and ready for cleaning and then once everything is out downstairs they could do that bit?

Added complication, we’ll need to have a cat shut in the kitchen ready to take him with us and very likely he’ll be stressed/pissing everywhere. Wouldn’t expect a cleaner to clean that up but just meaning there’s a room out of bounds which in an ideal world, the cleaner would clean. We can’t get as much time off work as we’d like and want to use that time off at the new house to get it in a good place and help our 3yo settle in.

So wondering basically if anyone has any advice or ideas. Is it worth getting a cleaner in the week before a move or does all the hard work get undone in the final packing stages? Is the final clean not that bad and we should just roll our sleeves up?

Thanks!

Sorry that’s longer than I thought Blush

I considered this when we moved recently but in the end we did it ourselves.

Clean as much as you can before the big day.
Once van loaded do the rest.

I put cats in the cattery for a couple of nights as well as tho that is a bit stressful for them not as bad as being there when we moved and it meant we didn't have to worry about locking them into a room at the new place as well.

Clean as you pack, do bathrooms the night before you move.

Give the floor a quick Hoover and mop after the boxes have been taken away. Then treat your new place to a deep clean the day after you move in - because I would bet that the people moving out of your new place didn't bother getting a cleaner in for you...

@ammary thank you, I think this makes sense. I’ve considered a cattery but wasn’t sure if they were open and the cat is behind on vaccinations due to COVID.
It’s just the bathroom and the kitchen cupboards I was really hoping to avoid tbh, but it’s a first world problem of course 🤣

@pumkinpopsickle actually we’ve been in since they’ve moved out last month and it’s spotless, which is possibly why I’m over thinking the cleaning on my end Grin

I used the removal company's own cleaners for additional £200 when I moved last year.

If you can afford it, hire cleaners to do the dirty job for you

I contacted a couple of local Catherine's and they were technically closed as no business but happy to help with mine and make a few quid :-)

My cats usual hotel is open as normal she's going for the week while my bathroom is renovated.

I wouldn’t bother to do more than pumpkin suggests. The one thing I would do is clean the inside of all the kitchen cupboards. I always do it when I move but I’ve never found the outgoing owner’s done it for me.

SparkyTheCat · 01/02/2021 22:55

Pre-Covid, but we had cleaners at both ends. One followed the movers round the old house as each room was emptied and the van loaded. Meanwhile another went round the new place before any stuff arrived. Worth every penny IME to reduce hassle and stress.

If you can, get (almost) everything packed two days before. Then get the cleaner in to clean cupboards etc. Quick hoover around on the day and you're done.

Lochroy · 02/02/2021 05:15

Surely if you have money to spend on a cleaner you spend it on the new place? The old place only gets a reasonable once over because the new people will do their own deep clean?

You've moved into your new spotless place already?
