Replacing kitchen worktop

Hello
Forgive me I have no clue on this. If you want to replace kitchen worktop how do you accurately measure up what you need and will a fitter be able to replace old worktop and install properly with existing sink and job?

Thank you

Several things to consider. Are the cupboards below going to stand the work top being ripped off? Are they in good condition? Will ripping off the work surface disturb tiles or upstands?

I would get the company you are buying from to measure up and take account of existing appliances and sink etc. You need a one stop shop if you are not a diy household.

You also need to consider which worktop. I’ve replaced wood with quartz and it was templated. Existing hob and sink reused and no issues. Sometimes this can be difficult and it’s better to replace rather than refit. I would get advice from the supplier and make sure your choice will work for you. They should visit, advise on the worktop and measure up for you. The risk of getting it wrong would stop me measuring!

It depends on condition. When we were younger and skint we replaced our worktop ourselves, we removed the sink and put it back after. You defo need to do the old measure twice cut once thing. If you’re getting a company in they will measure and advise you.

We replaced ours ourselves. Measured the length and width and made sure the worktop was longer. Think oh drew around the sink and hob and used a jigsaw to cut it out. You get a mm or 2 of leeway as there’s usually a lip on the sink and hob which sits on top.

If your reusing the sink and hob you will already have the exact size of the cut outs in your old worktop.

I’m assuming your using laminate? They will just be screwed from underneath and are quite easy to remove , if you’ve got tiles or upstand you will need to cut away any sealant along the edge.

Thanks everyone. We are just going to replace with laminate
