Condensing boiler pressure gauge between 0 and 1

I think this may be too low.
The heating timer is only on quite a low temp at the moment
though the boiler is switched on and making and I am wondering if this is the reason.
The radiators were warm before. Not so now so I have turned them up

Boilers do sometimes lose pressure, if it does it a lot it could indicate a leak, ours seem to need topping up all the while and I suspect a small leak but no idea where, we will get it checked after lockdown as it is not urgent. If you do top it up I would probably check if your radiators need bleeding, they will be cool at the top and hot at bottom if they do, bleeding will cause more pressure loss so bleed radiators and then top up boiler to right level which is usually 1

Generally mine needs repressurising when it falls below 1, which is usually only in very cold weather. You should have a key at the bottom of the boiler for doing this and if you google the make of your boiler you should find the user manual online. I usually let mine sit at just over 1.5 as advised by installer. If it keeps losing pressure, get it looked at, though.

Should I just turn up the heating temperature all together as it might
just not be high enough?

Yes, turn up your heating and see what happens to it, it can't hurt, also if it is all turned up you can check if any radiators are cool at the top

Thanks you great people.

I have to top mine up once or twice a year. Leave mine just over the 1 mark.

Just had a new Vailant boiler. It needs to be at 1 bar when cold and that rises to 1.8 when hot

Prior to this we used to top it up every 6-9 months and that was a tiny amount. Any more and there is a leak. You can get additives which deal with a small leak

Justpassingtime1 · 28/01/2021 04:03

Thanks I turned it all up and got the gauge back into the green area.
I will check regularly.
This happened 2 years ago, also in the winter but nothing much since then.
The boiler was just on too low. Some rads do work others do not
but warm all over, no cool areas

The boiler temp should be at 70 degrees. If the pressure does drop, especially when the system is very hot it may be that there is insufficient pressure in the expansion vessel. Most boilers have them inside but they can often be inadequate for a larger system so ours has a big red expansion vessel alongside the boiler. It literally needs air pumping into it like from a bike pump etc..same fitting. I think that needs to be at 2 bar but can't be absolutely sure. If insufficient pressure in the vessel it spits out water to relive pressure in the system.

Got briefed on this after our new boiler was fitted
