Non slip decking?

Fancy some decking in the corner of our garden but have heard it can get slippery. Is the non slip decking good? Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to get a 3mx3m area laid?

Composite decking is good. We've just replaced our old wooden decking with composite and it's not slippery. As for pricing, I'm in Ireland so prices won't be comparable.

We have Millboard. It’s expensive! However it’s pretty non slip and recommended for use around pools.

My quote from a millboard was £5600 !
Did it ourselves for a quarter of the price ( used flat decking, so will be slipping when wet, but for us it's in an area we won't use or walk across unless dry )
Definitely shop around. Our local timber merchant was cheaper than everywhere and included delivery.

We have ecodek - similar to millboard but cheaper. I'm incredibly pleased with it.

It’s the green algae that makes it slippery, anything that has it on gets slippy ( wood, rocks, stone, concrete, etc ). If you keep it clean wooden decking is fine, a good hardwood is nice and 3m x 3 m should be too expensive. I’ve heard the composite is easily damaged/ scratched by dragging garden furniture about bbq’s stones in shoes etc.

Decent non slip decking will, I think, come out as expensive as having a patio. I had some regular decking and ripped it up after 2 years due to slipping on it so you’re making a good choice in avoiding it.

We have dragged metal furniture about on ours and no marks here - we are not very good at looking after things in our house - hence no wooden decking!

We bought nonslip decking from Gripsure a few years back. I really wanted decking rather than paving or another option, but I was concerned about it getting slippery. This has been the perfect solution for us and from memory was reasonably priced too. It also doesn't require lots of cleaning! I think it still looks great and the nonslip bits haven't been a problem for our dog or children (another initial concern of mine!)

Africa2go · 27/01/2021 13:28

Another recommendation for Ecodek. Ours is about 4 years old and not slippy.

Millboard is about £90 per sqm so about £800 for your space plus labour costs.

I do think you will need a product recommended for swimming pool surrounds. Millboard is easily the best product. Cheap alternatives don’t work. And can be dangerous.

I have the same problem with mine every year. The build up of wet leaves causes the green algae as somebody has mentioned above. I usually give it a good jet wash in the spring before re-painting, this becomes an annual chore!! However to help the walkway through the winter I have some non-slip decking plates which are brilliant, particularly on the steps. These really are worth a try - www.heskins.com/products/bolt-down-anti-slip-plates. I have also considered the composite decking as have heard good reports.
