Moving out of London

Hello!
We are currently selling our 2 bed flat in London and DH and I can’t agree on where to move to. I really want to leave London and move out to Surrey (DH will commute to London once lockdown is over). He wants to stay in the area so that he can be home for our 4 month old DS. What areas are nice in Surrey? Are there any with 30 minute or less commutes into London? We are trying to find a compromise so any advice welcome! Thanks

@WombatChocolate is right, Surrey trains are not just to Waterloo, plenty of places with trains serving Victoria or LBG. And there are a couple of interchanges with direct trains to multiple London destinations - e.g. Sutton to Victoria and LBG. Epsom to all three - Waterloo, Victoria, LBG.

@Dragon11

We we’re in a similar position last year. We settled on an outer London borough. When we thought about the cost of season tickets plus the time commuting it didn’t seem worth it.
I am with Dragon11 and i would not dismiss your husbands concerns. South western are pretty crap. And remeber it adds a huge amount of stress as well as delay to life.

You have a healthy budget and can afford something more central if desired.
I worked with a woman who bought in Guilford and she changed jobs because she couldn't handle the commute!

Not sure which one is crappier - SW or Southern Grin Remember those strikes on Southern a couple of years ago, they went on for months!

@Nickilma

Advice on an electrician & painter/decorator in Leatherhead area...any suggestions?
Try starting a separate new thread with this subject line. Hopefully that will attract more attention Wink

Can you look at the destinations out of Cannon Street station? Travelling on overground is often much more relaxing than a tube commute and might be quicker from several places along the line than chugging along from Southfields on the District Line.

Having moved from a South Western trains area to a Southern trains one, believe me Southern is far, far worse.

Guildford to Waterloo is c 40 minutes. Vibrant town, loads of lovely countryside, good schools and nice surrounding villages.

Just seen the previous post about the Guildford commute. I did it for many years and it is manageable.

Depends where you work.

Our office was a 15 min walk from Kings Cross and she had a 20 min journey to the station end to end it just didn't work for her.

Agree Guildford is generally alright but as with everything depends where you work...
