Caring for old laminate and sink - tea marks

Hi mumsnet - I just moved in to my new house (finally completed). I’ve got two years before I can think of redoing the kitchen and it has 30 year old white laminate. I’ve never had laminate that stains like this - 2 days in and despite all family members claiming constant wiping, there’s a tea mark. Does anyone have cleaning product recommendations - dettol isn’t lifting it. Thanks for your help - I did google but I would love the collective wisdom of those who have lived with it before.

(Worktop savers have been ordered for around the kettle.)

Separate note - sink has rust marks - vinegar/bicarbonate hasn’t lifted them so I’d love any advice there too.

Thanks!

Try hot water with Vanish granules and leave it sitting for a couple of hours.

Ariel biological washing powder.

Cif cream cleaner on a damp sponge. Always excellent!

A product called Bar Keepers Friend, should be on EBay and Amazon. It’s honestly amazing, the only thing that removes marks from my ceramic sink and other tricky stains when other products have failed to.

Flash with bleach will probably get rid of the tea stains and brighten up the surface generally.

Agree with pp re BaR Keepers Friend for the rust. It’s brilliant. There is a powder and a cream, I have tried both but find the cream easier to use.

Bar Keepers Friend is the best discovery I ever made.

Thank you all - shall put in an order for bar keepers friend and add cif and flash to the list as well.

Just tried the vanish granules as I completely overstocked with them in the old house (when I came to move it turned out I’d bought 3 tubs; they had just hidden themselves behind other stuff.)

No don’t use barkeeper’s friend on oldnwhite laminate - I have similar and it totally destroyed parts of it. The only thing that works is vanish.

Let us know if it works. It works wonders on my daughter’s white sink.

Cif cream does for the tea marks really well... nothing works on the rust stains so far

We use toilet descaler for this purpose. Try some on an inconspicuous place first. It needs 2-3 mins to work. Just needs wiping off with a clean, damp cloth.
