Any experience with council housing

Hi me again, I did post the other day a similar question but just don’t want to get my hopes up !!

I had an email off the council the other day saying they are considering me for an offer for accommodation - sounds promising.

On the housing bidding site it says my rank is 1-5, prior to this I’ve been ranked in the 20’s. It also says I am the only person who has bidded on the property. This seems a little odd to me because I thought getting housed by the council was next to impossible?
If I’m the only person who has bid then surely the property is mine?!?!?

Any experience with this whole thing would also be appreciated. What do you guys think? Promising ?

That sounds like excellent news! What's the next step? Will you be allowed to view the property?

How difficult it is to get council housing depends on where you are in the country. In places where there isn’t high demand it doesn’t always take very long, particularly for hard-to-let properties in undesirable areas. If you’re in London or another high-demand area and showing as the only bidder then I’d suspect an error in the system, though.

So you may well have gotten lucky - congrats if so. Check before you get your hopes up that you haven’t accidentally bid on something you’re ineligible for such as sheltered or supported housing which would explain the lack of other bids. Otherwise, sounds like it’s promising

I depends where you are are in the country, some councils have hard to let properties.
Sounds really promising though, what is your situation at the moment?

That sounds really promising. I've been in council housing for the past 7 years and on 2 different counties bidding systems. People aren't too keen on moving at the moment or are assuming moves aren't happening due to COVID. Some people also don't want to move due to the lack of non essential shops and workmen (or women) available at the moment so if the property needs new carpets, which most council houses do, you can't get them.
