Too early or good planning?

So we sale agreed on our property and sale agreed to purchase a property approx 2 weeks ago. Solicitors have started to do why they need to do etc. I’m currently on maternity leave so have plenty of time to start packing things that we don’t use ie photo frames, ornaments and general nick backs about the house. My husband thinks It’s too early but I’m due back to work in April so want to get a head start so it’s not a crazy rush when we can move. Am I being silly by packing now or is it a good use of time to get a head start??

Don't get carried away - I've previously been in a chain that fell through when we were ready to exchange.

I'm actually in a similar situation to you at the moment (imminent move, coming to the end of maternity). I'm packing seldom-used things if I find space to stash the box afterwards - my focus is making sure I could quickly get the house viewing-ready again if I had to. But I'm also decluttering, re-organising and accumulating cardboard boxes, so that I can everything packed up quickly when the time comes.

We are a bit further along than you, but having had a sale fall through last year, I am not packing yet. I am, however, going through the loft, getting rid/selling stuff we don’t need any more and doing some trips to the tip.

My house is still upside down and full of packing boxes from a move that fell through at the start of October
I get very angry about it when ever I need something I can't find
I'd leave it a bit longer

I personally think it’s never too early to pack, I packed lots of things before my house was even on the market. Then I started with things I didn’t need or could get by without for 6 months or so. I got rid of things at the same time either bin, charity, or sold and it was nice to be able to do so leisurely!

There is so much stuff that can be packed away, sorted and streamlined without impacting on your ability to live in the house. Get a skip and sort through the attic, shed and garage, packing up or binning anything you won't need. Sort through drawers and cupboards so the only things left are things you need to keep. I would save the packing of actual rooms and decorative items until you are nearer the date.

We are in a simillar position, hoping to move in March. I have started packing the 'pretty' stuff as well as things that we only use for occasions eg the extra cutlery that gets used in at (non pandemic) Christmas. I have a spreadsheet and numbered boxes so that I can easily find anything that we might wany/need should everything go wrong

Thank you all so much for your help and great tips 😁

I’m going to go through each room and sort every cupboard and draw, get rid of stuff, get organised and pack up bits that are for decoration or not used often.

I'd definitely do a bit of a de-clutter, but I wouldn't be actually packing things just yet. There will be time for that :).
