Converting garage into another room, would you miss a garage?

We'll hopefully be moving into a house (from a flat) in the next few months if all goes to plan. The layout of the ground floor is a bit odd so we're planning on a redesign to make it work for us. There's a garage which I don't think we would use (but have never had one so that's probably why). There is space at the side of the house for a bike shed and space in the garden for a garden/tools shed. We don't have a car but might get one but can't see us parking it in the garage either. The garage floor space would be of more use to us as another room, e.g. play room/music room. My main concern is when we come to the sell the property later, would it bother buyers that there is no garage? There is a driveway for 2 cars. What do you think?

It would bother me. I won't consider a house without a garage, preferably a double.

I converted mine as soon as I moved in - it was a wide single, and I've made a living room, utility/loo and a hallway that also leads into the rest of the house. I love it, if it had still been a garage it would just have been full of junk as I'm far too lazy to put the car away, and I've got plenty of parking outside.

We haven't got a garage at the moment, and I really, really want one. When we move, a garage will be a must-have. Mind you, I think I'm in the minority.

I've said this on other threads, but it depends on the house - for some it will add value, for others it will detract. In the area where we're buying, a good 95% of detached 4 bed houses have garages and the handful which have had them converted just do not sell - no matter how nice the house is.

We need a secure, covered space for the canoe, trailer, and motorbike. So it depends on lifestyle really. Our new house only has a carport, but we are making adaptions for security.

I'm thinking of converting our garage so this thread has been really helpful. Can anyone that has done this give me an idea how much it costs?

Garage is essential for me (sporting equipment) and I'm discounting any that have converted it to living space but I think I may be in the minority
