What colour would you paint?

Partially inspired by the grey thread!
Im about to move into a house with a big (4mx6m) SE facing living room. It has a balcony with french doors and windows either side and lots of light.
I have no idea what colour to paint it! I was thinking of a pale dusty rose but might be too warm. I'm not good at colours either. What do you think? (Pictures welcome)

I think dusky pink is going to be the new grey, I’ve already seen it creeping in to magazines and Pinterest boards quite a lot. Which is absolutely fine, if you really like dusky pink and think it looks good, because you should always pick what you like, regardless of fashion or opinion; it’s just not such a good idea if you’re looking for something which isn’t on trend and won’t become ubiquitous (like grey.)

I always paint everything bright white. Looks clean and calming, doesn’t change in different lights, means I can switch out furniture colour schemes and artwork without having to worry if it clashes. People say it’s boring, but I think it provides a better background for other decor.

A really pale pink or orange on the walls always looks fantastic in large rooms. It will warm things up slightly but also look amazing as the sun rises and sets

Farrow & ball Hay.

Or any warm cream, warm mid yellow, soft pale apricot sort of colour might look nice too. If you go with a yellow make sure its warm, and no hint of green in it.

I've always thought warm colour suits south facing rooms. Its impossible to warm up a north facing room with warm colours so its better to choose cool colours. Others will disagree Smile

I have a room that’s a bit bigger than yours. I’ve used Pointing from Farrow and Ball. It’s a warm “white“. It goes with literally everything. I’ve used pale grey rug, dark green sofa and grey chairs. All have accents of green, grey and pink cushions. The room is currently being redecorated - in the same colour!

I’m just decorating a very light bedroom in Peignoir. Also F&B. We always use Wimborne White for woodwork. This room has a warm very deep chocolate carpet (I know people think this is odd but it’s a star colour) and white furniture and bed linen with a pink and blue bedspread.

If you use pink it needs careful accessories and furniture. I think a dark floor looks best and accents of copper/gold. It’s not the easiest colour to work with and I definitely wouldn’t use a pink that’s brighter than Peignoir.

A nice soft green, which chimes with the garden outside.

Op I’ve just painted my living room in a gorgeous subtle pink/grey colour called Chateau by zoffany - I love it. It’s such a lovely change from the grey I had before, much warmer but still very subtle (you wouldn’t walk in and think “oh, a pink room!”) If you’re on Instagram check out ‘styletheclutter’ - it was inspired by her living room.

Oh thanks! Lots of ideas. I hadn't realised pink was so trendy Blush
I was also thinking of apricot so might try that

I painted my south facing living room in Pink 01 / White 03 from Lick, it's very subtle without being overwhelming.
It looks lovely with white skirting boards and white frames.

QuentinWinters · 22/01/2021 13:08

Lick looks like a great company actually. Just ordered some samples from them. I like the eco creds. Usually just use dulux

Yeah I was really impressed by Lick, expensive though! Samples are brilliant, 100% accurate and you can move them around.
You can also try Coat, same vibe, and they have a really nice pink (forgot which one though)
