What colour is the dirt on your kitchen floor?

Or rather, what colour floor best hides dirt?
And what colours/finishes should a slattern like myself avoid?

Well I have an oak “parquet” floor (not chosen by me) and it shows dirt pretty well IMO. Also IMO gets easily damaged. 😡

@Hopeandglory

i have black slate lvt and it was a mistake, you can hover and mop it 3 times a day and within 1/2 hour there are bits on it. Looks great for about 25 minutes in a house with 2 fulltime workers and a slothlike teen
We have black slate inherited from the previous owners. It's the worst floor we've ever had and I can't wait to get it ripped up. It shows every crumb and mark. Every single little thing. It's going to be a hell of a job to get rid of it though and my husband is dreading it. Never have black slate op.

I have black tile effect...every crumb visible needs hoovering at least twice a day!!

treeeeemendous · 21/01/2021 10:37

Avoid anything black shows up every single crumb Angry

Brown/red terracota tiles and skirting with dark grouting. Hides dirt from the labrador an absolute treat.

A sort of mottled/shaded beigey colour - vinyl patterned like small tiles with small green diamond shapes in the centre of each 4.
Hardly ever looks dirty - at least not since we no longer have two lots of muddy paws in and out 🙁.
A quick sweep, and mop up of any obvious spills is the most I ever do every day.

I would mop it when any crawling Gdcs were due to visit but not because it actually looked dirty. Not that my very relaxed dd would have been bothered whether I had or not.

Amtico Cedar (brown wood effect) seems to hide anything. Worst flooring was dark slate we had at another house as that showed every speck.

Pale grey stone effect porcelain. It is textured and pretty good at hiding the grime. The texture makes it harder to clean though. It replaced polish cream porecelain put in by the previous owners which was a nightmare.

Not the kitchen, but we have oak effect lino in the entrance. It has been super muddy with all the rain lately and it really hides the dirt. It's a good colour for dirt concealment.

NotMeNoNo · 22/01/2021 11:20

Wood effect, greyish mid tone. TBF it's Karndean so not much dirt sticks but it's shockingly tolerant.

Blue/brown wood effect tiles (sounds odd but looks a bit like driftwood colouring). It never showed the dirt - I remember DH scrubbing it after some building work and being amazed at how much lighter and brighter it was, but it hadn't looked dirty before he started!

nevernotstruggling · 22/01/2021 12:35

Urgh. Kitchen is pale grey Lino. I went lighter as it's a small space. I'm an idiot. It shows everything.
Bathroom and cloakroom are dark grey Lino and don't show up anything except talc.

Amtico in a mottled beige. It’s amazing at hiding the dirt from 2 dogs, 4 cats, 2 teens, 4 adults and a tortoise...
Think I mop once every other week. I’m always a bit grossed out by the state of the water when I finished. Blush

Thank you. Off to look at the floor brochures now.
