Where to live - Perthshire/Angus?

We have had the opportunity to move to Scotland & would probably need to live in Perthshire or Tayside.
We would want a town/village with a Primary School, a local shop and something for children to do. Also not too far from a doctors/Tesco etc

The only village we know is Dunning which we like. Can anybody suggest anywhere else?

Wow! - thanks for quick responses! We live in a good sized, really nice market town at the moment - good schools, wine bars, lots of Brownies etc and things for children. Bit concerned that I would go mad in a village. Can anyone think of something similar in central Scotland/Perthshire/Tayside. We have been pointed towards Scone in Perth (any other good bits of Perth?), Aberfeldy, Auchterarder, Kinross and maybe somewhere like Callandar. Villages suggested are Comrie, Inchture and Muthill. Anyone know anything about them?

hmmmmm. to be honest, i wouldnt live in Angus again. its very boring, unless you like hillwalking. and rain. and golf. the schools are ok, i dont know too much about them, are you in a position to consider private schools?

i stayed in angus on the coast, so probably further than ideally where you are looking

the angus council website is pretty informative

there is a TON of fresh air, the seaside towns are very nice, you can do your shopping at farm shops (not tesco!)

perthshire has nicer places, like pitlochry, but again there isnt a LOT to do.

i would live in perth itself, tbh, but thats my personal opinion.

inchture is near dundee, so good public transport, and dundee has plenty to do

scone is nice i agree

aberfeldy too.

dh grew up in scone and loves it as a place...personally dont rate it much.

I think Callander is nice.

Or Balfron is nice with good schools.

nailpolish · 29/10/2007 10:03

it really depends what you are looking for tbh

village life can seem idyllic but reality sets in very quickly

Hello Waswondering

fancy bumping into you!

I worked in Perth for a year and loved it...it's such a pretty town.

Thanks for all this - spent 4 hours on the internet yesterday getting no-where; this is much more informative!

What do you mean about Scottish villages being different? - very insular? Too much tittle-tattle and "you're not from round here" would drive me mad!

Also, you have hit the nail on the head about "depends what you want". I think that is the problem - I like the idea of countryside, but don't want to drive the kids miles for swimming lessons etc. Not even too sure that I want to move - blimey how do you make these big decisions??
