Moving house etiquette... Is it okay to leave the TV wall mounts and some other stuff?

We are moving house in a week and all three questions are popping up that I never even thought about before. This is our first time moving from a house that we own. I've looked at the tv wall mounts and I'm pretty sure it's going to leave a massive hole in the walls if I remove them which I will then have to patch up and possibly repaint? Is it ok to just leave them for the new owner? Or is that being a cf?

Also we have an alarm system and a security camera. Is it ok to take this with us as we never said we would include it in the sell? We said we would include fixtures so obviously lights, carpets, curtain poles, integrated dishwasher, fridge/freezer and cooker, ect.

Oh and the curtains. Should I leave the curtains as they will only be going to the dump if I remove them? I am going to leave the made you measure blinds.

I would like to make sure the house is clean for the new owners. I will be doing a thorough clean the night before but then the movers are coming the following morning and they will be taking away the hoover, ect so it may not be perfect. Can't really see a way around that.

Any tips, advice, suggests welcome.
Thanks

Definitely ask about the TV mount. Personally, id want it gone, but others may be able to use it.
Leave the curtains.
Sounds like the alarm is sorted.
Small amount of rubbish in the outside bin would be ok, but I'd expect it pretty much to be empty except for the last bag from day of moving.
As others have said, Hoover goes in the car so you can clean where furniture yas been moved from.

Congrats on the new house. Good luck with the moving.

Security system is a fixture you should leave that

SpiderinaWingMirror · 20/01/2021 08:41

I had the phone number of our buyer so texted with photos to check. E.g. we had an Ikea wardrobe that wouldn't come out of the room in one. Did they want it? Similarly with tv brackets etc. Left curtains in place.

Etotheipiplus1equals0 · 20/01/2021 08:46

Personally I’d leave curtains and the tv bracket. It’s better to leave stuff and it not bed needed rather than vice versus. When we moved into our current house they had taken the curtain poles, hooks off doors and the shelf above the fireplace- tight fuckers! They were moving into rented too so it’s not like they even knew for sure they would need them in their next house and we’re just storing them...

Etotheipiplus1equals0 · 20/01/2021 08:47

So many typos in that!

TheQueenRaven · 20/01/2021 08:53

So the bins all need to be completely empty? I wasn't going to fill them more than halfway, and all animal poop would be disposed of separately

No, the bins don't need to be empty! The responses on here illustrate how some people on MN are lacking in common sense!

Your outside bin will have all the usual household waste (contents of kitchen and bathroom bins) you've accumulated during your final week in your home. Including the bagged up contents of the litter tray. Your buyers are not going to be rummaging around in the bin! Half full is fine.

Good luck with the move.

Wildly off topic but who are all these people who put dog poo in their own bins [shock? Why would you not just drop the bagged poo in one of the many street bins (many specifically for poo) that are regularly collected Confused

SlothMama · 20/01/2021 09:31

Go to the tip before you move, our sellers filled every bin recycling, waste and garden waste. It was really irritating having nowhere to put our rubbish for a week!

halcyondays · 20/01/2021 09:37

If you don’t want the curtains leave them up , the new owners may be glad of them at least to get started.

I think it’s fine to use you bins as normal as long as you’re not leaving them overflowing or putting the wrong things in the recycling bin.

Ghostella · 20/01/2021 10:22

We have TV brackets on the walls and this has just made me think!! We’re definitely not leaving them, should we be filling the walls?? Wouldn’t that need repainting? I can’t repaint the whole house in time to move!! Shock not leaving the curtain rails either. Surely people don’t fully repaint before moving? We’ve had pictures up too so there’ll be pins in the walls from those.

Jericha · 20/01/2021 10:54

@friskybivalves our bin for dog waste was a separate bin we had tucked away in the garden for the occasions when the dog would poo in the garden and not on a walk. The bag of any collected bagged waste would go in the black bin on bin day. When we moved we took the dog poo bin with us, disinfected the black bin left after we tipped the bin contents. Not saying it's perfect or pleasant but works for us.

TierFourTears · 20/01/2021 10:57

@Ghostella are your buyers aware the curtain rails are going? That's something I'd expect to stay.

I dont fill pins holes from pictures, but yes, if you've had screws in the walls from a TV bracket, it needs making good. Have you got any paint left from last time you decorated? Fill and patch paint.

Ghostella · 20/01/2021 11:01

@TierFourTears no we don’t have any paint at all. We’ve never painted this house (it was newly renovated when we moved in 18 months ago) and in perfect condition other than obviously the holes from brackets etc. So we won’t be able to fix that without repainting everywhere. It’s a huge job to do that!!! Not discussed curtain poles either way I don’t think?? I will check that.

@friskybivalves

Some people don't live in areas with dog waste bins... I also can't imagine bagging up dog waste from the garden and saving it just to go out and deposit it elsewhere, seems less faff (and less handling = more hygienic) to just put it in the outside bin at home!

Mykittensmittens · 20/01/2021 12:22

@Ghostella your draft contract will be explicit in this.

Ours clearly says that anything taken from a wall should be stated in the fixtures and fittings forms, the holes should be made good and left tidy. On the rubbish front it says all rubbish should be removed from the property and the property left clean.

Ghostella · 20/01/2021 12:28

My husband says we’re fine for the curtain poles and they know they’re not staying. We won’t be doing anything with the brackets coming off the walls, DH said he can remove them without damaging the walls, it’ll just be the holes from them with the aerial socket there, clearly they’ll have to either put a TV up there themselves or a mirror/ picture or something hide the aerial socket. If they want to replanted and redecorate that’s on them, we can’t and won’t be doing that now.
