Cat carpet damage WWYD

My greedy cat has scratched a hole in our carpet trying to wake us up to be fed at the crack of dawn. It's a wool carpet and runs across 2 flights of stairs and 2 landings so not straight forward to replace (plus he'll just start on the next one!)

Open door isn't an option because at the moment I have a baby in the room but if he gets in somehow or he's been hiding under the bed like a Trojan horse before Grin, he's head bumping and purring relentlessly as well as painfully clawing at your scalp. I like the idea of stretching the carpet or a carpet transplant. Thanks for these suggestions

you can also get wooden thresholds.

My current house has them, around the same width as the door lining (frame) which is the thickness of the walls. They are about as thick as the carpet.

Mine are in some kind of red hardwood, inaccurately described as mahogany, but I suppose you could stain them any colour. The carpenter likes to fit them when fitting a new door and lining. It means the carpet does not go under the door or in the doorway.

My 4 cats are shut downstairs at nigh time do have choice of lounge or kitchen with cat flap. I put out fresh food, dried crunchies and cat milk for them just before I go to bed.
