Backboard vs splashback dilemma

Hi,
We are designing our kitchen and will be using Howdens as we have used them many times before and been happy with the units and the internals.

We are now deciding on worktop and backboard. We are on a budget and so quartz etc are not an option. We have reluctantly had to look at laminate,

The kitchen is along one wall 3.3m long. We have a design but can work out what to put on the walls.
And so the dilemma ....
We don’t want tiles ( had them before and the grouting got dirty.).
We would like the worktop and wall to match. We could buy a backboard but they only come 600mm wide and so can’t have the wall cupboards that low because the built in extractor has to be over 650mm above the hob.

We want a streamline look and ideally no joins ( problem it being over 3m.)
I read somewhere that the backboards you can buy can’t go behind a hob!
Am I being mad and asking for too much?

I will add an image when I am allowed as I am a new user so will need to wait 48 hours

We have short back boards, 10cm high I think that match the work top then a stainless steel splash back behind the hob. When we redecorate I will be tiling and back boards because the paint gets splattered (I'm a messy cook!)

I just read backboard as blackboard, and thought "Why?". I'll go and get some coffee and leave you to it till I wake up. As you were :)

I put acrylic backboard behind my hob and covered it in glass to comply with regulations. It works fine and is easy to keep clean with degreaser.

As promised, hope this shows the problem a little easier than my ramble above 😄

I would choose tiling with a darker / grey grout. Mum went for a black tiles with charcoal grout and it looks amazing.

Thanks for the suggestion but we really don’t want to have tiles. We ideally want a smooth surface. We are now looking at an IKEA backboard which says it wider ( higher) than 600mm and might come longer than 3m.. it says it can go behind hobs ( not gas, but that is ok). Obviously can’t go and see it, so any experience or other suggestions?

You can get glass cut to size and painted
That's what we've got, so easy to keep clean. Edges sealed with silicon.

Look online for glass splash backs made to measure. Any length and height. Make sure it's glass not acrylic so you can use behind hob.

I think I’d opt for vinyl stickers in your position with maybe a stainless steel or glass-acrylic splashback - something that’s cheap and can be easily be removed when you want to refresh. Brushed steel or copper can actually look pretty good as a splashback throughout though I personally don’t like the color of copper when it rusts

I'm debating whether to have black tiles in my new kitchen. Is it possible to see a photo with charcoal grouting please?
