"Hello. We just got carpet installed for the stairs. Do you think this has been well installed? It looks a bit messy to me around some points, in comparison with other carpets I've had. I would appreciate other opinions on it. Thanks!"

@Proudboomer I've got it! It's Adam carpets, flare collection. Glad you like it :)

I talked to the shop today and their only suggestion was to remove the staples, but they said it won't look better as the carpet will be loose... Not sure what to do now!

Does the price cover both the carpet and fitting all as one job or two separate ones? If it's all together then you'll have to tell the shop that your suggestion is that they send the fitters back to sort it out and you won't be paying before they do!

Cheesypea · 19/01/2021 18:21

It's not you. Get your husband to complain and ask for them to refit it.

AnnaSW1 · 19/01/2021 18:25

The bottom step looks ok but it looks like they stopped trying after that

Thankyou it is lovely just a shame they have done suck a poor job of laying it.
I sent your picture to my fitter for him to track it down and he said quote that is a piss poor job and they need to replace it as nothing they do will make it look better.

Keep complaining! That's ridiculous, they need to get the fitters to replace entirely.
PragmaticWench · 19/01/2021 19:00

The shop will need to replace the carpet and have it refitted at their expense, not by the same fitters.

That's completely appalling!!

MaggieFS · 19/01/2021 19:32

You tell them to come back and fit it properly! And if that means starting from scratch with new carpet, so be it!

Irenyasa · 19/01/2021 20:24

Thanks everyone, your comments are really useful as remind me that this is not acceptable. I'll try talking with them again.

Sorry OP but yes it looks a total mess! I am a perfectionist but I can't see how anyone could think it was acceptable. I know how disappointing it is when you pay a lot of money and get a shitty job, I paid thousands for a new kitchen and more of the brand new doors were scratched then not, still waiting for that to be rectified...

Really hope you manage to get it sorted! Be firm and hopefully you haven't paid it all yet,

Mutunus · 19/01/2021 21:15

I think even I could do a better job than that. From the way the carpet just hangs down it also looks as though no grippers have been fitted under the treads.

mummymayhem18 · 19/01/2021 21:22

That's shocking! They are taking the piss. In no way is that acceptable. Looks like it's done by a cowboy. Thank god you have only paid the deposit.

MrDarcysMa · 19/01/2021 21:28

Op I had a similar situation with LVT. All of the flooring/ carpeting places in my area (big chains and little Indy ones) use the same local sun contractors so it's luck of the draw who you get.
I withheld the money until they corrected it and it took 2 more visits until I was happy with it and paid. They did mention after the 2nd visit taking action if I didn't pay up, I said I had photos of the shoddy work and best of luck to them if they tried to pursue the money before they'd made the job good.
I felt a bit for the company as they had to fork out for materials to do it again all because of a crap fitter but it's not my problem 🤷‍♀️

UseHerName · 19/01/2021 21:34

It’s not well fitted, no

But it’s a lovely carpet - hope they do the right thing and sort it for you

MrsMoastyToasty · 19/01/2021 21:38

Its not just unsightly it could be dangerous if someone tripped.

Maybe a mention of Trading Standards might bring them round to your way of thinking.

sosotired1 · 19/01/2021 21:42

Terrible and possibly dangerous in the future. Definitely don't pay until they have replaced, preferably a different fitter. I've been in your situation. You really have to tackle it and not compromise however uncomfortable that makes you feel or you will regret it.
