Split level island?

I’m having a huge island in new kitchen with both hob and sink on it.

I’m worried we’re not close to tidy enough to have sink and hob in full view at all times, so I’m considering having a split level island to keep some of the mess hidden.

The downside that I can see is that I then lose the lovely expanse of island worktop I was planning on having. (Island will be only worktop.)

Anyone got any advice for a clueless kitchen planner?

(We will have home for clutter elsewhere, so I’m not worried about letters and phones so much as I am dirty dishes and washing up stuff.)

Oh thank you, isolated and thatone. And thanks for the pic isolated - it’s lovely!

That’s more or less what I’m thinking of, but I’m not liking how they look in the designs so far...

If it helps that's 3 pan draw units on the side you can see and then on the other side there is a tall wall unit without doors and a tall wall wine rack with the side panels on and then just the work top across the top.

To me those are barriers and make cleaning more difficult with spills from the hob.

Overall my island is in excess of 4m. 3.2 for the granite section and 1m of circular wood for the table section. The granite is 1300 wife with cupboards on both sides. It’s also got built in bins. If you have this amount of space you can have a decent sink in the island but the bigger double sink should be on the wall. With the table arrangement we have I’m not really conscious of pans lying around. They just go into the DW or the dinks for soaking. Takes a few seconds to do this.
