What is the general cost of tiling

I have been asking for quotes for my kitchen floor and splasback to be tiled.

First quote i have had back is £1,695 for floor and £600 for wall. I have asked for breakdown of costs as couldn't work out why it was so high.

For the floor the quote has £900 relating to labour. I think majority of splashback is labour also.

This is a 12m2 kitchen with porcelain tiles going down on floor, cheaper 10x10cm on splashback. Existing floor tiles remaining and being tiled over, existing splashback tiles being removed before tiling again.

Is this cost justified? Does it take a week or something to tile just the floor?

Ask him?

@Bluntness100

Will do, as another tiler will do both floor and wall for £780 labour. Don't know his quality of work but such a big difference.

@superherobirds

I'd love to see your hall, kitchen and utility. That's very nearly the size of a football pitch.

When we had our main bathroom tiled we were charged £175 per day, it took 4 days so £700. The wall tiles were the hardest part as I'd picked extra large tiles, apparently they're more difficult to get right?! The floor also needed boarding which was included.
In the NW.

It’s actually quite small. I think you’re confused on your measurements.

@bluntness100

Superhero birds says "It is about 38 metres squared". 38x38 = 1,444 square metres.

As the advert goes, "I'm not confused."

Apologies, I meant 38 square meters but I’m sure most people understood what I meant given the prices and the size of the average house in the UK.

No need for apologies, it was a (drily) light hearted observation.

If you’re concerned then get more comparative quotes. The tilers my builders used are ridiculous expensive which I found out after they tried to add additional cost to me as they fucked up the quote!

I always find building sheriff to be a fairly good guide as to costs, so wall tiling for splashback www.buildingsheriff.com/tile-splashbacks-costs.php and then floor tiles www.buildingsheriff.com/tiling-floor-cost.php

I do my own tiling, not to brag but it is a skill, not just the laying but working out where you are starting, is the middle the grout line between two tiles or the middle of a tile? How much will you have to cut at the end of the row? How many tiles can you get vertically? Is it a cut at both the top and bottom? You have dictated the tiles and possibly didn't think about the implications. I measured my walls and worked out what tiles would fit well then went tile shopping.
