Bastards at the bottom of the chain

About to exchange next week, the bottom of the chain are demanding £60k off the purchase of the next one up. I'm being asked to take £30k hit.

Bastards. They have sold, sitting in a rental but they know people up the chain are desperate to move.

20 years ago a df of mine had the buyers from hell. They offered asking price, then started haggling just before exchange and got price reduced, also the house had a bespoke glass window above the door that had been a wedding gift and df from the start had made it clear it would be replaced with plain glass. They argued over that.

About a month after the sale had gone through df was bursting to tell me her good news.
The bathroom had a slightly stale smell occasionally and df thought it was dc splashing so much.
Two weeks after cf’s moved in the dining room ceiling, under bathroom, fell in completely.
Turns out there had been a slight leak, probably for years.
Made my df’s day.

Sure if this fell through you’d have paid out a fair whack on stamp duty - so may as well have done what you did and just accepted the lower amount!
