DIY kitchens- carcass colours

Have just ordered a DIY kitchen in Dove Grey. I chose Lancaster Oak carcasses as thought it would imitate the look of wooden cupboards like the attached, but am now worried it will look cheap and plasticky. Have 5 days in which to make any changes! Does anyone have these or similar carcasses and would mind sharing a photo? Thank you!

We had Lancaster Oak carcasses with a white kitchen. (not DIY another supplier)
I really love the look and think it looks very high end.
You do end up spending a lot on end panels to clad it

I had a white kitchen but with the browny grey interior, not wood effect. I am really pleased with it. Would get white interior again even though no interiors are on show.

Didn't you get samples sent out?!
We have 'mussel' and 'charcoal', both have the same finish but obviously different colour; although not the oak effect you opted for, it's a smooth matte but can't sat it looks plasticky.

You can ask them to put a pause on while they send out samples, might be a better option for you to be sure

we went for pale grey interiors on our pale blue units as the wood was a bit too dark and too much contrast for me and didnt want white

Smallgoon · 15/01/2021 12:23

I have dove grey wall units and went with the matching carcasses as that's what the DIY planner recommended but I imagine the Lancaster oak carcass would have looked fine. My base units are Cobham blue and for those I did go for the Lancaster oak carcasses.

Here's a pic of the inside of my dove grey wall unit. However, I really like the pic if you have included in your post. I think both options can work. I do really like Lancaster Oak in any case. Gives a high end feel.

They have a very nice finish with the matching ABS edge banding.I think they will be fine whichever option you choose.

I have a shaker kitchen from DIY kitchens in Grey with the Lancaster oak carcass. I love it. It doesn’t look cheap to me. I preferred the oak colour as was worried light coloured cupboard shelves could end up grubby or scratched and I think the oak will be more forgiving. That said, I’ve still put liners on certain shelves to avoid any mess getting on the shelf from herbs, jam, flour etc.

Thank you all v much! I’ve been in touch with them this morning and they’re going to send me a sample of the Lancaster Oak and pause production until I decide.

@Loofah01 I did get samples of the doors but didn’t realise for ages that you could have non white carcasses, and ended up in a rush as their sale ends tonight.

@Smallgoon I love the look of yours!

Hi, I was just wondering what the outcome was here? I'm in the exact same situation.

I'm not sure I've ordered enough panels to clad it. Any advice would be appreciated

Thanks

Bumping, op what did you do also, how do you choose colour of interior

BlueMongoose · 09/08/2021 16:20

We're struggling to get carcasses for existing doors in anything but white or grey- we need maple to match the ones we have. Looks like we will have to have bespoke or make our own. Bespoke ones seem to cost a fortune- like the best part of £170 for a bog standard pan drawer carcasse.
