Is this a reasonable quote for new boiler?

Hi

I've had a quote for a new Combi boiler for a smallish 3 bed/1 bathroom terraced property.

Quote was to install:
New Glow Worm Betacom 4 Combi boiler
With filter
And Room Thermostat

Includes removal and disposal of redundant boiler and pipework.

Cost: £2,100.

When I Google that boiler it seems they are around £500-700 to buy so it would mean cost of filter, installation and disposal is around £1400-1600 and I have no idea if this is about right or not.

I could get a second quote from another firm but it's needed quite urgently as current one is about to give up again so thought I'd just check here if anyone has a clue what's normal.

Thank you

I’m having an entire new central heating system installed (including removing the old boiler, radiators, gas fires and hot water cylinder, relocating the boiler in the cellar and fitting all new radiators).

Total cost £3,100.

That’s in Yorkshire though.

I’d get another quote.

Dont forget the cost of labour on top of the cost of the goods! But do get another quote just to be sure.

My cousin is a plumber and just fit one for our grandad (who he obviously wouldn't rip off) at a cost of 2100, so I'd say that's fair. But it's good practice to get a couple of quotes before you commit.

Sounds about right. It’s a big job, our plumber charges ~£50/ hour, last time we had a new boiler there were two of them here working on it and it was a long day, so possibly up to £800-1k in Labour, plus copper pipe is not cheap. Get some other quotes and see.

I recently got 3 quotes for a similar set up and they were all for that kind of price. The boiler I was looking at was more like £1000 to buy, mind you.

Sounds fair if you’re needing new pipe work too. I had a quote of £1600 for a combi boiler for a 3 bed with a new filter around 2/3 months ago but I believe the company had an offer on at the time. You can always ring a company to ask, no need for a visit and some even do FaceTime quotes. Give 2 or 3 a ring tomorrow and ask? Otherwise £2100 seems reasonable. When I had quotes from big companies they wanted £2400+, one even quote £3700!!

We just paid £2800 for a new boiler. We are in a 5 bed townhouse in Scotland. This was with British Gas. No deposit and we're paying over 2 years interest free. That included Hive as well, so we can control the heating and water from an App on our phones. Very happy with it!

tootiredtospeak · 15/01/2021 11:34

Paid £2600 for mine baxi boiler and fitting nothing else.

ees2203 · 15/01/2021 11:37

Having mine done tomorrow changing conventional boiler to a combi for £3,600.

crystalize · 15/01/2021 14:22

Having mine fitted right now! Worcester Bosch combi 32KW with programmer. Like you old removed, new pipework £2400. Id get more quotes as my boiler alone costs around 1100 and comes with a 10 year guarantee and warranty. Meant to be the market leaders. I found my fitter by recommendations local FB group.

We also went with British gas ..@ £3k interest free over 3 years and they give you British gas homeserve(?) free for a year ...hive etc as mentioned above ....I think it's a bit more expensive but we were very pleasantly surprised..we don't like the thought of pulling a number out a directory so you have that reassurance with them and any after care etc ..very pleased

Eminybob · 17/01/2021 08:21

I’ve just paid £1995 for new boiler, thermostatic valves on all radiators, installation, system flush and Hive.
I think the actual boiler was around £500. So I wouldn’t say your quote is too far off the mark.

If you claim benefits, check the Government schemes for help with boiler replacement

MarieG10 · 18/01/2021 08:01

Some plumbers are charging rates on £1000 per day when worked out like you have.

I would look around but perhaps also look,at what boiler you want. If you are staying there I would look at a Valiant or Worcester. We have just done a load of work looking at having a Valiant fitted in two weeks with a ten year warranty which means we are binning the British Gas cover and replying on the installer who is local, to service it and come out to repair any non boiler issues.

Oh and why give up the BG cover....had them for years and were brilliant but last two years they have been awful.....up to 3-4 days to come out to total boiler breakdowns as every time my appointment time was near someone who was "vulnerable" leapfrogged me. Also parts taking 2 weeks when the plumbnation store down the road had them in stock!! Will save me £300 per annum!

Sounds very realistic tbh.
When we moved into our current home it had the original boiler in the garage, it was defunct (approx 30 years old.) Had to get a new boiler immediately, our plumber charged us just on 4k for a top of the range Worcester one, it also needed all new pipework inside and out, removal of the old water tank in the loft etc. It was 2 full days work for him and his son.
