Adding another floor on a bungalow

I'm going to view a chalet bungalow tomorrow. The upstairs is nowhere near as big as the footprint.
I want to put 4 bedrooms upstairs. What kind of cost would it be for a whole new floor? Removing the roof and creating a timber frame level and roof.
I would also need to renovate through out.

Dh has specified he does not want a protect Blush

A lot. You don't know if the foundations could support that so you could need to underpin. Some are cheaper to knock down and start again, but it doesn't often add up. The costs will vary with area.

If your husband doesn't want a project, you'll be paying someone to do it.

We looked into having similar done to my old childhood home 12 or so years ago. The ground floor was massive but the old converted upstairs only had 2 rooms with limited headroom and very narrow staircase. We were quoted in the region of £130k for the type of thing you're looking at. We sold and moved instead Smile.

Check if you would get pp, there may be a policy limiting the height.

Sounds like you want a house, not a bungalow.
Some people have tried doing similar near me in what used to be a lovely area of bungalows, most really don’t look good and are completely out of keeping with the rest.

Also, some bungalows have covenants saying you can’t convert the lofts, so do check.
