Roof lantern?

Hi all,

I am considering a side extension and would really like a roof lantern. However from the outside they look really shit. We are on a main road and it’ll be highly visible as we also live on a bend.

Has anyone seen any roof lantern styles that aren’t so visible / look good externally?

Thanks!

No....and knowing people that have them, they are still susceptible to leaking despite using fibreglass.

Can you do a traditional roof with Velux?

Can do. I’m just exploring options at the moment. We won’t be having any wall windows though (new entryway and mudroom) so all natural light will be from the roof

We have one - you can't see it from outside and it doesn't leak (but the previous owners had it replaced). I want another one for the shower room.

We have flat ones from duplus.co.uk. With a very slight slope so that the rain runs off.

@MollyButton how have you managed that?

Thank you @cortex10 I shall check it out

Well I can't see that bit of roof, maybe its because its too far from the edge?

Thanks! X

I don’t think any of them look good from the outside, they do look nice from inside though, like a previous poster said a pitched roof with velux would be a better option. They do some nice ones nowdays. Flat roofs are not very attractive to the eye or future buyers and it’s only a matter of time before something leaks. Most need replacing after 10-15 years where as tiles will 70 years or longer.
