Stainless steel or concrete kitchen worktop

My kitchen worktop is 420cm long (straight run) and I’d like to avoid having a join.
The sink is in the middle, so I’d either have the join at the sink or towards one end of the run. Not keen on either option.
They’ll also be an island of about 220 x 140cm

Products are limited at this length for the straight run but I like stainless steel. Concrete is another option.

Anyone got either of these? What’s the good, bad and ugly of them.

I have stainless steel, but not a 4m run - its the discontinued ikea udden freestanding units. I got the units as a temporary solution really but the worktops are great. Completely heatproof you can put anything anywhere, hot as you like. Easy to wipe down. Nothing has ever stained them. They do collect surface scratches so if you want something pristine it is not for you. And ours have some minor dents too but they were super cheap, I'm sure better ones wouldn't dent. For practicality I think they're great.

Cheers NewYear.

I like the idea of ‘bombproof’.

Corian will be seamless if you wanted another option

Concrete will stain and absorb marks no matter how well you seal it

However by a few years it will be stained to that uniform old concrete look so will be fine
Mits the inbetween stage where the first few stains happen that might be annoying

Not as forgiving to crockery and glassware either

I love concrete. Yes, it does mark but looks good anyway. I oil it which reduces the visibility of the early marks.

I'd second corian. We have it and it's fabulous

Stainless steel - it looks good and stays good, no staining, marking or heat damage to worry about.

I have corian in my utility and I hate it it’s too prissy to do the job.

Thanks for the insights folks. Leaning to stainless steel. Just don’t want another ‘needy’ thing to worry about.

Car - bleep. You’re too close to something.
Me - no I’m not.
Car - yes you are. Look, there’s a bollard 6ft away.
Me - oh fuck off needy car.

Laptop - bleep - update me
Me - but I thought I’d just done it.
Laptop - you did but that was for x system. This is for y.
Me - oh, ok.
Laptop - morning, you need to update me again.
Me - again. Needy fucking laptop.

Shower - I need descaling again.
Me - oh fuck. My fault for choosing these tiles.
Shower - ha ha.
Me - fuck off needy shower.

@AuntyFungal never have I related to a post as much as your last one Grin

in that case, laminate. A skilled fitter can produce a near-invisible join, we've got one in our kitchen. (just don't let kitchen fitters do plumbing or screed floors!)

or employ a wife to do the maintenance for concrete, steel, wood etc.
