Is living in Glastonbury as great as I imagine?

Hello to anyone who lives in Glastonbury.

Recently I keep thinking about living there and wondering how it is in reality.

I always enjoy visiting the town, I like the location in Somerset, the alternative perspective, and history. Love the idea of being near the Tor and the Abbey, and not far from countryside.

So if you live there, I'm interested to hear your experiences and pros and cons! Thank you in advance Smile

Warning: Personal views following!

Glastonbury is horrible.

Salisbury is larger with a bit of a hippy streak to it, on some major lay lines and close to Stonehenge. Much nicer in my view.

In Somerset Ilminster, Crewkerne, Somerton are smaller with a much more small town mentality but I like them. Also Sherbourne is nice if the posh kids behave themselves! (3 boarding schools IIRC).

Wells is nice, typical tourist town (and on the edge of AONB), expensive.

Frome is too full of London escapees being "true to themselves" or something whilst wearing hunter wellies.

Yeovil has a cinema and Makro, but few choose to live there.
Bridgwater smells. People leave there.

The best of Somerset is the smaller places in my view, especially villages. Then use Taunton, Yeovil, Bath, Bristol as main centres as appropriate.

Do be aware of flood risk due to global warming if looking at buying on the levels.

Good luck

I'd suggest heading to one of the other towns such as Midsomer Norton,Radstock, Keynsham, or Wells (which is technically a city).
