Did anyone refuse your offer then come back to you?

I've made an offer on a property which they said they cant accept at the moment as they have others interested, fair enough.

I'm just wondering did anyone make an offer which was initally refused and then they got back in touch to accept and if so how much later did they get back to you?

Yes, we put an offer in at asking price and were renting at the time. It was rejected for a higher offer from someone in a chain.

3 weeks later, we get a phone call from the EA - Other person couldn't get a mortgage and did we still want the house? We put in an offer at £35K above asking (still not the highest offer they got) and due to us being able to move quickly and not being in a chain, we got the house.

5 years later, still here, still love it and don't regret it at all......

Had that...about a month later. we had, by then, found somewhere that was in a better condition for less money.

We had out offer of £725k accepted on a £750k house.

We then had the survey done and it needed a new roof amongst other things, so we withdrew the £725k and offered £700k instead. Thy were most put out and said no.

Two weeks later they said yes, urged by the EA as anyone buying the house would have the same issue with the roof.

They were shitty with us all through the sale though and didn't speak when we saw them briefly on moving day. 😂

Yes. When it turned out all the wealthy buyers "from London" were not actually putting in offers. It took 4 months but we got it at our original offer which was the asking price.

Greyclock · 11/01/2021 11:56

@Cismyfatarse Oh yes, all those mythical "London buyers" waiting to whip the house away from you, so you MUST put in your offer right away. 😁🥱

justaweeone · 11/01/2021 12:06

Yes 4 months later, offered 40k under the asking price. They said no then came back to see if we were still interested. Said yes but we were not moving on the original offer
Been here 15 years now

There was an offer on our house (a few weeks before we put in an offer) which was turned down because the seller thought the offer was too low. A few weeks later the seller meekly asked the original prospective buyer if his offer still stood. Buyer told seller he should have accepted his original (and very fair) offer.

We got it for an additional 4K less Grin

Yes we offered on a house we really liked, it was very overpriced, an old lady was downsizing and the agent was open that her sons were over estimating the value. They rejected our offer and another higher offer but we then walked away as it was not worth any more to us. About a month later after we had had an offer accepted on another house the agent contacted us to say that the lady would think about our offer if we were to make it again Grin We were happy to say 'no thank you'!

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 11/01/2021 13:25

Yep though the EA failed to tell us the house had gone back on the market so we spotted it online and called them back to make another offer.

I agreed a purchase but then my sale fell through. I got a new but lower offer. The vendors of the place I wanted to buy initially refused a lower offer but later - when I'd got my buyer up a bit - they agreed a £15K reduction. This was based on the market being quite unpredictable, both sets of estate agents anxious to nail a sale and their fees, and wanting to still get the stamp duty holiday. There was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and negotiating though. My estate agents were really helpful in advising me how to negotiate.

Yes, about 15 years we fancied living in a small town (in Scotland) which had a nice school. Unfortunately many of the sellers in the town had an inflated sense of their values and several turned down our sensible offers and came back later.

The best was one whose very snooty solicitor told us that our £180k offer was too low and we needed to come up to £190k. We refused and bought elsewhere. About 8 weeks later the same snooty chap called us to tell us how fortunate we were that his client would now agree to accept our offer. We declined.

I checked months later and it had sold for £165k!

We were the first to see, agent rang us as soon as it went on website, and offered 10% under. They said they had other viewings booked over the next couple of days they wanted to honour. Came back to us in 3 days and we met in the middle at 5% under.
