Removing burglar alarm panel/sensors

I'm having my hallway decorated next week and just realised I probably should've looked into having the burglar alarm panel and sensors removed before I do this. I don't use the alarm and it has been disabled at the main box.

I'm presuming it's not just as simple as unscrewing and taking off the wall because they'll be wired in somehow?

If the main panel is disabled , should be able to just unscrew it and take it down. There will be a small , size of a bt cable in it , just chop it off close to the wall.

it is likely to have a mains voltage power supply somewhere, so consider that before you start chopping.

Is the keypad separate from a control box?

Some photos will help.

An alarm that is in place, even if not working, has some deterrent effect, and can be renewed if you or a future occupant wish.

Be aware that unless it has been completely disabled, the alarm might go off if parts of it are removed from the wall (to stop burglars dismantling it). Start with the main panel: there might be a rechargeable battery inside; and yes, take care not to chop through a mains wire connection.

The alarm definitely won't go off because I cut through the external box wire last time I decorated - alarm repair guy removed the bell battery, and did something in the big control box to disable everything.

The pic shows the panel I want to remove, that and all the sensors seem to have no power and don't work, but I don't know what's wired to what. It's probably best to just leave as is, it's not the most intrusive looking thing. Will teach me for not thinking about these things earlier! (Also currently v.annoyed at an old Telewest box I didn't think to ditch before the plasterer finished 🤦🏻‍♀️)

if you wrap it in clingfilm, it will br protected from paint drips and the decorator can work round it.

Assuming you no longer want it there, surely this is your chance to unscrew the parts, and get some filler applied and the hole painted over as if it was never there?

Ideally but that was my question, is it that simple? Presumably there are wires to that panel and just cutting them off and filling over them doesn't seem like a safe thing to do? If proper removal is a big job it's probably easier for me to just put up with it

Does the keypad still light up? If not then the power to it is disconnected. You'll be fine to remove the keypad from the wall, cut the wire (they only carry 12 volts in any case) and make good with filler.

Lellochip · 11/01/2021 15:26

Nope, no life in the panel. Does the same apply to the sensors, if they currently have no power I can remove?

I'm guessing the decommissioning engineer did a good job for you. I would guess he has removed the mains power to the panel and disconnected the backup battery. You're good to remove any alarm bits you want.
