Areas around Harrow (though not Harrow!) for grandparents

Hi All,

Hope you can help.

My parents want to move but have NO IDEA WHERE. They are now 60, my mum has mobility challenges, so they want a bungalow, preferably detached so they could extend however they liked if they wanted to in future, and to have a decent garden because they love to be outside in the summer. My mum also likes trees around, so not a busy part of town, but also with ok access to shops not too far off. My dad, as you might have guessed, is easy going and laid back!

They have family in Harrow, and want to live close enough to them, but not literally down the road! So a radius of 10-15 miles perhaps?

The budget would be about £700,000 give or take. Three beds would be great, more if possible.

Any ideas on areas?

I should say, it doesn't HAVE to be a bungalow, but I say that only because the property would need a decent footprint on the ground floor so my mum doesn't feel like she's living in just part of the property, if you see what I mean!

It all depends whether they want London or surrounding areas, for surrounding areas I would suggest Sarratt or Croxley Green, or slightly further out places like Stoke Poges or Farnham Common or up into the Chalfonts.

Hillingdon, Uxbridge and Ealing are the neighbouring boroughs, so if look there to start. Hillingdon will get you more space for that budget and more likely a bungalow.

Would suggest the northern part of Hillingdon such as Ickenham, Ruislip, Harefield, Northwood, Eastcote

I endorse mammmamia’s comments. These are all lovely areas, with easy access both to open spaces & to London & surrounding areas, by road as well as by public transport.

I know a retired couple who sold their bungalow in Iver & moved to Denham Garden Village. They love it there & the facilities are amazing. Bungalows seem to range between £500& 600k - the only downside is that there’s a hefty management fee for the upkeep of the extensive grounds & the first class facilities.

So sorry, I think those are identical links!

The railway line (Chiltern) stops at Harrow. This opens up Rickmansworth, Chorleywood and Little Chalfont if they don’t want to drive all the time. Even if they do drive, it’s quite possible. All these areas have bungalows and decent countryside.

I used to live in Northwood. Northwood Hills had lots of bungalows from my recollection

Yes, absolutely.
