Feel like my life is on hold

DH and I were planning a big house move this year. We have about 8 potential towns/villages we’ve earmarked as ticking all our boxes in terms of amenities, schools and everything else. The problem is that we haven’t even been to most of them - we’ve just done a huge amount of research online!

The plan was to visit all of them and get a feel for the general vibe, visit local pubs and shops etc before settling on one or two and buying our forever home - but now that’s clearly not possible due to lockdown.

As a result our plans are on hold for the foreseeable and I feel like I’m in total limbo. I could use the time to get our current place decorated and ready for sale, but it needs a bit of work and I’m slightly worried about having tradespeople in with the pandemic situation, especially as we have DC.

Is anyone else in this position and how are you dealing with it?

Are you living somewhere you're unhappy with at the moment OP? Are the places you're looking at far from your current location? Have you joined local FB groups to get a feel for the place? Our village FB group is quiet but the village next door is shouty and kick-off and puts me off living there Grin

I know time seems endless at the moment, but things will probably move quite quickly once you've made your decision. It's 11 years since I moved out of London to the countryside and it seems like yesterday.

Me
I know I have nothing to complain about compared to others at the moment really but we were screwed over by a major developer in Oct. we were ready to move and they dropped us
House is still upside down and half packed up
We put the house back on then market but have had no interest
Dh is desperate to move
I'm resigned to waiting but feel a bit pressured by his urgency and him being so pissed off having to stay where we are for a while longer

@MoodyMarshall I really like our current place and we’ve been very happy here, but equally we’re ready to start a new chapter and I had it in my head that we would be, so I’d psychologically started moving on in my head if you know what I mean!

Good idea about the FB groups, thanks - I will have a look!

I am sorry, do continue your research and hopefully vaccinations will roll out quickly and we'll all be free again.

I also recommend joining the local Facebook groups too, it's eye opening. My £250K budget would only buy me a small terraced house or a flat, I had planned on moving to a particular area in Devon and some of the posts really put me off. I followed the page for six months and was quite shocked. Bins purposefully being set on fire outside retirement blocks of flats, garden pots/ornaments/bikes being stolen, car having paint thrown all over it, dog walker threatened by boys with machetes, rubbish being fly tipped everywhere and worst of all for me loads of cats run over and left in the road. Wasn't all piskies and magic at all!

@Salome61 where did you end up? Devon is one of the areas we’re looking at!! Shock

I'm curious as to where in Devon too?? I moved here a couple of years ago and love it!

Hello, I was looking at Exmouth in east Devon. I had a lovely visit for a few days in September, but couldn't afford the area I would have liked around the Avenues.
