What order to do things when moving over several weeks?

We are FTB so will have a month overlap(by choice) of the 2 properties.
Will be able to get floors done and paint etc before moving and then will be able to move in slowly.

Would you move in first and slowly bring stuff from the old house or slowly move stuff into new house before moving in?

We moved over a few weeks, initially redecorated, and then started bringing things over slowly. Clothes we weren’t going to be using, kitchen items that we didn’t need. This meant the last things were things we were using, but it made the whole process easier. One the final day, when we moved in, there wasn’t much to do, and it felt good- with all the rooms set it helped Smile

I've done this twice. Spent the first few days getting the kitchen a bedroom and bathroom ready - decorating then floors, then moving in and doing the lounge, then the rest of the rooms, hall last as you don't want to muck up the new carpet traipsing stuff in and out. . Don't move the TV /laptop in till you're ready to quite your old place, or it'll creep on if one of you likes watching TV, and slow down progress.

With regard to actual moving, as we had a large car and a van we didn't need a removals van, just shifted a few boxes/items each day

You can always do as I’ve just done and spend three and a half weeks dragging your heels and moving two or three boxes at a time when you felt like it from old house to new before eventually panicking four days before completion because you have to be out and are now going to have to get a move on?

In seriousness - we moved in to the new place first in the sense of buying key furniture and taking a couple of suitcases of clothes, then brought stuff from the old place gradually. I’ve also done it the other way, and found the former easier (despite the last minute panic) both moving wise and it seeming less of a transition.

Does the new place require any major work like damp course or re-wiring? If it does then leave it unfurnished for as long as possible.
