Which areas in London to buy?

Looking to buy a house (3-bed+) in London, hopefully in the next year, with a £600k budget. (Looking to buy a house rather than flat due to leasehold and ground rent with flats).

Ideally looking to buy somewhere with a reasonable commute to central London (within 1 hour) and within walking distance to a tube station.

Currently rent in west London (Ealing/Acton) but not sure I can afford it to buy unless house prices go down significantly.

Could anyone recommend good areas near tube stations that I could look into please? (I’m not familiar with east London at all, but realise I may not be able to afford west).

Thanks very much.

Zinnia, what didn’t you like about Ruislip? We’ve lived here for best part of 20 years & have thoroughly enjoyed the proximity to countryside coupled with a fast & cheap rail link to Central London - it’s also a great place to bring up a family! We weren’t impressed with Hanwell nor West Ealing - indeed only liked the Pitshanger part of Ealing, which was well out if budget!

Ruislip and Ickenham are good options.

Absolutely - I’ve lived in both & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend either of them!

Another vote for Ruislip and Ickenham. I moved from Hanwell (nr station) to Greenford and now Ruislip :)

Some parts of greenford are ok, but I’d avoid nr the high street , maybe horsenden area but not much in the way of facilities

I've nothing against Ruislip, honestly! It's just very much outer London. No offence intended whatsoever, it's got a lot going for it in its way, but it's pretty different from Ealing. I'd say the same about lots of places on the fringes, just a PP mentioned Ruislip and I happen to know it...

There was an extensive Ruislip discussion on a similar thread to this one recently, if you're keen to discover more about it OP.

Tooting/Colliers Wood/South Wimbledon if you want to stay urban? Your budget might stretch to a small 3-bed - you'd need to compromise a bit on space but there's some ok options available and lots of transport links...
