electric underfloor heating in kitchen but not under units

Hi Mumsnetters!

I'm wanting electric (dry) underfloor heating adding to our kitchen when we have it replaced, along with new floor etc.

Has anyone got underfloor heating just under part of the kitchen, but not under the fridge, units etc? I'm worried about floor levels and wasn't sure if it was possible to pick and choose where the heating mats went or if it had to be the whole room?

I am having radiators too and I really don't want to pay to heat up the underneath of my fridge freezer!

Thanks!

Wet, not electric but yes! Doesn’t go under the island either and think carefully about where you’re going to put your bin (if free standing).... heated rubbish anyone Envy (not envy!)

We have a wet system that does not go underneath the units. Underneath the units is insulated with kingspan to stop any heat rising eg under the fridge as the heat does radiate outwards and upwards from the heating pipes.

You can’t put underfloor heating under units it’s against installation guidelines. You put the insulated cement board everywhere, mark out the units, put the underfloor heating everywhere else and then seal. I have warmup prowire.

Yes it’s possible although may result in two different “zones” so two sets of controls. The family I used to work for had electric underfloor heating in their kitchen and had 3 zones: 1 for the “back kitchen” which housed the dishwashers and the big pantry type up boards, 1 for the area between hallway/cooker/island and another for the bit the other side of the island up to where the dining table was. A few cold spots because of the way the mats had to be laid (door way between back kitchen and kitchen, either end of the island) but not problematic and worked well. They didn’t have any mats under any of their units.

Thanks guys! Good point about the bin!!! Love the idea of zones!

It does t go under the u it's a,though we did have put under the island to allow for change in kitchen design. Best have that on a separate circuit though.

However, what I would suggest is rethink the electric underfloor heating. The cost is generally astronomical. Most people I have known or heard of that install it switch it off after the first electricity post installation and never use it again. Electricity is four times as expensive as gas
