Soundproofing a party wall

Can this be done in a mid terrace? Any experiences or recommendations please?

Next doors children sound like they're in our house and I'm at breaking point. Not even sure if we can afford it but I will take a loan out if it means some peace and quiet for once.

Firstly do the floor joists run through your house to next doors?

I have no idea @slitherslimyslither 😬 how would I find that out?

A quick google says yes and a number of companies offer it. It’s basically a layer of material glued to a wall. Says cost is about a grand a wall.

I decided to do it much cheaper by putting 25ml insulation boards against the part wall and then getting a bloke in to put plasterboard over that. Works a treat and much cheaper - same depth as the sound insulation the companies use. You need to cover the whole wall though otherwise the noise will seep through like smokeGrin.
It might have saved me from a murder charge.

Thanks @Onlycakesshouldhavetiers I'll show this to DH and see what he thinks (I hear you on the murder charge!!)

Mine do, I can FEEL them walking around their bedroom. Not just hear it but feel it.

This sounds do-able. I' had a company tell me that that would make no difference but it would help a bit.

did you put rockwool under the floor boards? I've been told that would help a bit too.

Onlycakesshouldhavetiers · 01/01/2021 12:58

Another thing that you coukd look at is there are clay beads you can get that you put under the floor boards with a liner on top of if you want to sound proof your floors too as that will absorb any noise travelling from next door that way bit I haven't used them. It was on one of the escape to the chateaux diy programmes in the last couple of weeks

Crosspost, no I didn't do the floors as it was badly played instruments that werr my biggest issue but have very shaggy carpet so that probably helps with the floor.

Thanks all, some good suggestions to look at.

Small mercies I can't actually feel them stomping around!
