Hi all, we are searching for our first home and we are a novice to property things! We like this house amongst all the ones we have seen so far, we are new to this area as well! So would be great to have advice from anyone who is from this area or around. What are your thoughts on the price? Please share your thoughts

@Splann

I used to live in Ruislip. Cowley wasn’t the nicest of areas to put it politely. But you do get more for your money. Do you work locally or need to commute? The Cowley road used to be horrendous for traffic and it’s nowhere near the tube. Really polluted and noisy too. The house looks big, do you need that much room? If you don’t I’d suggest looking at nicer areas but smaller houses as they will be more expensive.
We don't need to live in this area but we wanted to live close to the cross rail path or Met line so the commute into London becomes easier and somewhere that we can afford within our budget. We live in a flat and not much space, this lockdown and wfh have increased the appetite for bigger space. What other areas would you suggest? we are looking at the ruislip, harrow area as well but I guess our money won't fetch much there

That is one major busy road.

Atm you are looking at the interior which looks like it has been completely redone to distract from the road.

I wouldn’t even consider it. I have lived near a main road and would never do again as the problems we had selling it

Look further afield near to a station that takes you in to the London station near to where you work. Eg Watford if you need to get to Euston.

High Wycombe that goes into Marylebone etc sometimes it is quicker than the tube

It looks really nice but I find it odd that your first house will be 4 bedrooms. Most start with a smaller house and gain equity then trade up a few years later when they need more bedrooms. As for price you need to go on to sold house prices put in postcode and see what other similar houses in area were sold for as opposed to advertised for. Always start with a lower offer as sometimes people just agree to accept offer you make. I have bought 9 houses in UK and not once paid full asking price. Always make offer subject to survey findings and always get a full survey done. It is false economy not to get one. For the same price you could get a 5 or 6 bed detached in cheaper areas of the country. Even a sea view but I suppose you know that.

But then you wouldn’t see the seaview as you would be commuting for hours every day and be too knackered at weekends to enjoy it.

Its actually only a 3.5 bedroom with the fourth one being a narrow which can be used as office space. Although it's our first home we are at the wrong end of the 30 so we would like to settle with something bigger to start a family and also have extra space when we have family and friends come over. Would the survey include the actual value of the property as well? how often have you had luck renegotiating if the value was less than your offer

Hello, We have been searching a house for a long time. We found a house couple of weeks ago and put an offer on it. It got accepted and now we are in the middle of processing. I just realised that the house has low ceiling height of 2.1meters. I am very stressed and worried. Please help what should I do now? Many thanks

My natural first question is: what do you want from the local area?

Every location is unique, but so are our individual/family needs. You could be thinking about commutability, access to schools, shops, restaurants, green space, air quality, crime, etc etc. Whether the area is any good for what you care about is something we can help answer once we know what you are looking for! :)

I’m always amazed that this size of property can be a first home. The nets would have to go too, they are grim.
