We were told today and the next few days after are statically the busiest for people wanting to view houses .
I'm still in 2 minds about taking ours off the market but I wonder if we'll get a flurry of phone calls on Tuesday
I'd be interested to know if anyone does get a lot of interest next week.

Really? I thought it was busiest around Easter? I know a lot of people scan rightmove on Boxing Day but I didn't realise they were serious buyers looking to move

I am looking to put my house up. I am holding off until Feb. The thought of putting my house up now and people viewing with all the Christmas toys around makes me shudder

LynetteScavo · 26/12/2020 11:08

January is a usually a very busy time for Estate Agent. Lots of people want a fresh start, often Christmas helps people realise they can't spend a another year of their lives with their partner and they want to spilt up.

I think when they go on about it being busy for house hunters, what they actually mean is rightmove and the like get the most hits. Not sure how many of those hits are just window shoppers vs viewings/sales.

I was really excited to see loads of new houses this morning on right move.... but they're just reductions (about 30 in our town). I heard it was the busiest day for right move.

I think April will be busy when stamp duty finishes, they say house prices are going to fall 5% in 2021 but it seems to me everyone that wanted to sell would have pushed for the no stamp duty so I doubt there will be as much choice within the market in 2021 witch means prices will be higher! Good luck with your decision!

Paulina23 · 27/12/2020 08:03

Equally buyers who wanted to buy would have rushed to complete before stamp duty so you can equally doubt there will be as much choice of buyers in 2021 which means prices will be lower?Hmm

We were told that last year when we went on the market on Boxing Day, we didn't get an offer before lockdown and bugger all came on to the market. We ended up getting our offer the day lockdown was mostly lifted in May! Always a bit suspicious about that post Christmas "surge" spoken of.

My parents sold in October and have offered and lost 6 houses. 4 they offered asking price (not enough and all went to bidding wars with people from London. Last 2 they offered £20k over and still lost. One went for £100k over asking. These aren’t auction properties and are seeking within days or hours with people who can work from home moving to the coast. It’s gutting as my parents are trying to move closer to us with DD’s dementia getting worse but they feel completely stuck. Housing market is hideous here.
