Zero houses coming on the market - anyone planning to sell soon?

We’ve been looking since October and have viewed one - yes just one - house in our area. There has been barely anything come on which is in our price range with the right amount of bedrooms. I know it’s the general time of year and also covid hampering things. Is anyone out there planning to sell in the new year?

Planning to in the new year yes!

plannit · 24/12/2020 20:13

Where are you as it's still crazy where I am.

ScrapThatThen · 24/12/2020 20:18

We have one going on in January

MrsJamin · 24/12/2020 20:21

We had an offer accepted on a house in September, after having seen around 10 or so possible ones in the 3-4 weeks before it. We haven't unsubscribed from any email alerts from RM and we literally haven't seen one that we would have viewed. Nothing came up in our price range and location. Vey bizarre. We're in a South East large town.

Were looking.. market is dead where I am!

Hoping for more sales after Xmas and the new years! Usually a quiet time of year tbh!

Keepthechangeyafilthyanimal1 · 24/12/2020 20:27

I’m in the East of England, few miles out of a city. Usually loads of houses around but right now, nothing. The house we did view, had been on since summer and only sold the other day after being reduced.

I've been trying to sell a retirement flat for over a year. Hopefully things will improve as the vaccine allows older people to go out with confidence.

CarinaMarina · 24/12/2020 20:46

My late DM's retirement flat has been on the market since January, reduced twice, no sale.

But my house is going on the market on Boxing Day! We're on the south coast, looking to move to Cambs/Norfolk area. Haven't seen much new coming on now you mention it, I hoped it might perk up at new year...

Blackletterofthelaw · 25/12/2020 00:40

We are launching our house for sale on 4th January, we were advised by our estate agent to wait until the New Year...no new properties on the market in the last few weeks...South East

lboogy · 25/12/2020 04:05

Question- why have you left it so late? Is it because your properties would be stamp duty exempt without the recent stamp duty holiday?

Blackletterofthelaw · 25/12/2020 09:07

No, because we couldn't decide if we wanted to move yet or not! We originally planned to move after being in our current house for five years but decided to move now as we saw big price reductions in potential houses we were interested in around November. We are unlikely to meet the stamp duty deadline but are potentially saving £75-£100k as house prices in our area for large houses over £650k have dropped, so it is worth moving for us.

NewHouseNewMe · 25/12/2020 11:51

Is the price drop uniform where you live and have you seen them all?
We found that on paper, there were "bargains" - large houses that looked good for the market price - but there was always a catch. The garden had been sold off for another house so it was tiny and overlooked, neighbour's house falling down, just too far from transport and shops etc.
We bought one of only 3 that came up to our wishes in a whole year. We also have to up our top budget too after realising that such properties commanded a premium.

Blackletterofthelaw · 25/12/2020 20:02

Oh no, it's always so disappointing when
the house itself is perfect but the location of neighbors are an issue! It seems to be universal for houses in our price range in the area we are looking in . We have seen two that we would be happy to purchase, just have to try and get ours sold in January now!

Paulina23 · 25/12/2020 23:23

Properties pouring down this evening on email alert. Mostly old dogs that didn’t sell during the mini boom ahead of the busiest day of the year on rightmove (26.12).

Starseeking · 26/12/2020 08:56

We are planning on selling in the new year, and hoping that lots of new properties are put on at the same time!

Icantfindausername · 26/12/2020 22:24

I am hoping a lot go on the 1st or 2and week of Jan, really need to find something we like! Argh.

neondragonfly · 27/12/2020 07:06

This is exactly the question I was going to ask today too!

We're desperate to buy something around the Southampton / Portsmouth area and can move quickly. But there's literally nothing out there or going on.

If you're planning on selling, please message me Grin

We weren't looking during the last lockdown, was the market generally very active then? I know it's Christmas but very interested to get a feel for what January may be like, especially during these tough times.

Good luck to all buyers and sellers

Desperado40 · 27/12/2020 07:38

I am really hoping January will be less quiet. We accepted an offer on our house in Nov, seen a few properties but none of them were right. Literally nothing came in December in our search/budget. I am beginning to panic that we may lose our buyers. Fingers crossed for a lot of new properties in Jan! We are in a small town in SE.

ThankYouDebbie · 27/12/2020 07:43

Us I hope. Details all done and ready to put online. We were 8th Dec-ish by the time we got to that point and the estate agent said to wait. Barely any new ones have pinged for me during that time. One or two who look to have gone on with a different agent. We're South East.

PerditaMacleod · 27/12/2020 07:55

We've just accepted an offer last week so really hoping that lots of places will be coming on soon. I've been stalking Rightmove for ages and there's nothing. Just missed out on the perfect house a few weeks ago as it was before we were under offer :-(
