Hitchin - Need your advice

Good Morning! I hope everyone is doing ok. We thinking of moving to Hitchin from North London with our three monkeys (6yr old, 3yr old & 1yr old) especially as we have family who live near by to there. Can I ask a few questions -

  • are the trains into London reliable?
  • is there a good range of sports clubs? (Oldest she plays rugby, swimming and gymnastics)
  • Is it easy to make friends? We are a social family who love having anything from Xmas drinks to BBQs and will be starting from scratch if we move 😊
  • Has anyone moved and successfully done in year transfers? We would have yr2 and reception transfer by the time we move (preferably wait until the pandemic is over)
  • Are the nursery waiting lists super long?
  • Has anyone made a similar move?
Thank you - Merry Christmas!

if you have kids then its perfect its full of family's but because of that the waiting lists for nursery's are long and schools are packed. But since moving here a few years ago i can see my self settling roots.

my daughter go's to twikondo theres also a local pool plenty local parks and love how easy it is to see my sister in London because of the trains .I cant say what the local toddler groups are like due to the virus i have not been able to take my daughter who's now 18 months

It will tick all your boxes. Nursery lists not too bad, you should find a place somewhere. All the schools are pretty good, so need to worry about finding a house you like that you can afford. Don't know about in year transfers, I know our school is full.

I moved from London 5 years ago, and really like it here. It has a bit of everything you need.

Thanks so much for your replies. I love London but since having kids I spend most weekends driving outside to go to woods, cycling etc I would swap city bars for a lovely cosy pub any day 😂 My kids are in a great school and nursery but our area is heavily polluted and quite a few drug addicts which kids don’t understand yet but they will when they older.
When you moved was the buying process hectic? I know in London houses go off the market in 24 hours and it’s usually sealed bids.. super stressful.

House buying was fairly hectic, but I was only buying not selling and v pregnant, so settled for a small house in a central location that I love, but not ideal as we will outgrow it and limited ability to extend.

The outdoor life works really well for us. I got an allotment within days of arriving, can get out into the country from our front door with 2 kids under 5. Invested in a really good bike trailer to go further afield. We had an amazing lock down #1.
