Has anyone / is anyone planning on taking their house off the market for now?

I've tried to remain positive about selling and buying this year
We were totally screwed over by a major developer in October after reserving in June
Our house is still upside down with dismantled furniture and packing boxes
We put house up for sale again but no interest
Nothing is moving round here and none of the lovely houses we viewed have sold either . Market seems to have stalled
Yesterday's announcements make me feel even more uncertain . Feels like the country might implode . Nothing is getting better . Our jobs are safe for now but who knows about the future . Banks and solicitors have huge backlogs and then we have Brexit in January
Feel like taking house off the market and seeing what the next few years bring
Anyone else feel similar?

For a brief few moments yes. The thing is you don't know what next year or in 2 years time will be like, that's the thing this time last year none of us predicted this.

Don't get me wrong I believe in planning for the future like having a buffer of savings that I've never quite achieved the amount I want but if you wait for the market to pick up you'll probably be paying more.

Anyway we hung in there and we are now sold hopefully everything will go okay but if it doesn't we'll just carry on.

Icantfindausername · 20/12/2020 17:01

We actually gave notice for our agent to take it off the market, we sold 10 days into the notice period so I would say leave it up, i know how frustrating it is but it only takes that 1 buyer. Good luck x

pilates · 20/12/2020 17:08

Leave it up. We sold last week.

Comps83 · 20/12/2020 17:12

Tbh it's not really the selling that worries me
If we leave it up and no one buys it then no harm done
I'm worried about being in a chain with the backlogs so bad . I know a chain can collapse at any time but things just seem so much more complicated at the moment

Our buyer dropped out on Monday - we were in a very short chain - we are buying or hoping to buy a house that has no onward chain. So despite having a minor meltdown when we first got the news have decided to keep it on the market over Christmas as there will be less houses on than usual and who knows - after a year like we've just had we've gotta have some luck 🤷🏼‍♀️

Comps83 · 20/12/2020 17:35

@Eviebeans ah that sucks
We also had a buyer drop out and then a month later the developer dropped us (part ex)
I hope you have more luck then us

Right with you. Ours has been on since July with 30 viewings and so many people messing us around, buyers pulling out etc. But feel weirdly calm about it over Xmas when there's nothing we like on the market now anyway

AboutTurn · 20/12/2020 22:14

Don’t give up!! We have just gone under offer and have been on the market since September. There really is nothing to buy though so just hoping the market picks up in the next few weeks.

Comps83 · 22/12/2020 17:06

No chance of catching the stamp duty holiday now but I gave up on that a while ago

OP posts:
SunnyUpNorth · 22/12/2020 17:27

Oh God it’s so hard to know, especially with the stamp duty holiday ending and Brexit.

We have been on the market since August, but it’s an empty flat. We used to live there and rented it out when we had to move. If we keep trying to sell it we are losing rent but when we tried to relet it in the spring it didn’t let so we decided to try and sell. It’s a lovely flat in a great location but has no outdoor space which has been the constant feedback. I’d much rather just sell it but it’s got to the point now I don’t know how realistic that is. I’ve also spent the money we would get from it in my head so many times!! I’ll have to give up the daydreaming I think.

If I lived in the property I was trying to sell I suppose there is no harm just leaving it on the market. But I know that’s difficult from a planning point of view and not knowing where you will be in the future.

I’m so sorry for the posters who’s chains have collapsed, just so painful.

Burnthurst187 · 22/12/2020 17:46

We accepted an offer of full asking price two months ago but unfortunately absolutely nothing was coming on the market or was on that was suitable. Renting or moving in with parents not an option

After two weeks we apologised to the seller and EA and took the house off the market. Seller was in a hurry to get in, didn't want him to spend money on searches and solicitors so we made the decision asap

The plan is to sell in eighteen months when the world is hopefully in a different place and DD is eligible for free childcare. We'll then be able to look at houses in the next bracket

Hard decision but the right decision. We've looked on RightMove twice since and there's nothing at all suitable, hardly any new houses and just the same drab, overpriced ones still on there

Comps83 · 23/12/2020 17:17

@Burnthurst187 I feel similar to you but dh is so desperate to move he just won't accept that anything could or would go wrong or that now isn't the right time . I want to move too but I'm willing to wait

OP posts:
HopeAndDriftWood · 23/12/2020 17:24

We were going to wait, but after talking to about a thousand solicitors an estate agents etc, and reading everything I could get my hands on, everyone seemed to say the same thing - either sell now; or sit tight for three or four years while everything settles down. Nobody seemed convinced that waiting 18 months/2 years would be a good idea, and we’d need somewhere bigger after that... so we’ve listed, and our fingers are tightly crossed.

It’s a personal call, but it’s so tough. What I wouldn’t give for a crystal ball!

Inkpaperstars · 25/12/2020 19:41

My friend has just taken her house off the market after a few months with no offers, she wasn’t ready to reduce it and things just weren’t moving. Even though on paper it’s the type of house and place that would attract people right now...rural-ish small town but not isolated, garden etc.

Lightsabre · 26/12/2020 09:04

Boxing Day is meant to be the busiest day of the year on Rightmove so I'd hang on for a bit.

wantmorenow · 26/12/2020 09:41

Curious where you are in the country. Houses selling stupidly fast here.
Really suggest you keep in on market as it increases your options and costs nothing.
Friend's house purchase fell through due to adverse survey and she was desperate to move bef Xmas as moving out of rental. She found another property which a last minute sale had fallen through on.

She was able to view, exchange and complete within 12 workings days. The seller was amazed as was she. Cashbuyer.

Your situation could change so quickly, you just need one person to want it. Fingers crossed.

Comps83 · 26/12/2020 09:45

@wantmorenow we're in the northeast
I've been keeping an eye on the houses for sale where we live now and all the houses we have viewed and none have budged. A few have been taken off the market without selling

OP posts:
wantmorenow · 26/12/2020 11:09

just seen this on some news link , sorry can't find it now, that boxing day is the busiest day of the year.

Funny how different UK regions are, still think you have nothing to lose keeping it on there for a while longer.

INeedADayOff · 26/12/2020 20:54

Absolutely nothing new on the market in our area.

A few have come back on and are overpriced.

Market seems to have stalled here but is still really crazy in others.

Comps83 · 02/01/2021 17:31

Well we got no calls from ea's after the supposed Boxing Day Rightmove surge
Think I'll leave it on but I'll just have to try to limit my expectations and try to wean myself off scrolling through house adverts

OP posts:
cloudchaos · 02/01/2021 17:51

I think a lot of the estate agents are currently closed until 4th. Is yours open? If not, I'd probably give it a while longer.

Comps83 · 02/01/2021 18:25

@cloudchaos yeah they've been open

OP posts:
Comps83 · 06/01/2021 09:06

Quite a few of the lovely houses in my Rightmove list are being taken off the market .
I'm increasingly getting the feeling that this isn't the right time
Husband on the other hand is just desperate to move and keeps wanting to go view other houses
I can't see the point right now .

OP posts:
Emmgrem · 06/01/2021 11:52

January was traditionally a good time for the property market but most things on rightmove seem to be reducing and nothing new coming on. We had one viewing booked over Xmas and they cancelled as they had a positive covid test!

Comps83 · 06/01/2021 11:58

@Emmgrem yes most of my Rightmove emails are for reductions
We won't reduce ours any further though it's already on for less than paid for it
Just going to have to be patient i suppose
