Is no news good news on buyer's survey?

Our house survey was 10 days ago. Not heard anything (surveyor said report would be sent to buyers within 7 days). Not heard anything, and don't want to chase estate agent in case it looks like I'm expecting problems.
Do buyers always come back with issues following surveys, or is it a good sign that all is well?

Good news in our case. Nothing major or unexpected came up, so no need to try to negotiate with our vendors.

QueenStromba · 18/12/2020 16:32

We didn't ask for anything off and nobody ever asked us about it - the house is far from perfect but the survey didn't list anything urgent.

I would say so

when we bought our house last year the survey did flag some things up but as we were buying at do it up price we didnt get back to the seller on anything

lockdownguru · 18/12/2020 17:05

Probably yes. We did a survey few months ago and haven’t told anything to the agent since it came back OK (with 1-2 small urgent items)

marisacoulter · 18/12/2020 17:18

There's no way of knowing. Maybe it's good news, or there could have been items flagged they need to think about/get more information about. It took us a few days between getting the report and contacting the estate agent about the issues identified as we wanted to research some of the issues and likely costs before deciding how to proceed.

It's fine to contact the estate agent about it and ask them to contact the buyers, I wouldn't worry at all about it looking like you're "expecting problems". The estate agent works for you.

BiscuitDrama · 18/12/2020 17:20

I’d say it doesn’t mean anything. You need the survey back.

BiscuitDrama · 18/12/2020 17:21

I mean you need to know if they’ve had it. They may not have had it back. You could ask from a timing wondering point of view.

Candleabra · 18/12/2020 22:22

Thanks, I'll give the estate agent a ring on Monday and see what the position is. It may be that they're digesting the information to come back to me with the issues. I'd rather know either way.

I'm a buyer and it's been nine days since the survey was carried out. I emailed the estate agent a week ago (as they requested) to let them know of a large problem that has been flagged as urgent and not heard a thing back so can only assume they haven't passed this information onto the seller. So I would definitely give them a call so that you know one way or the other.

SilkiesnowchicksandXmastreecat · 19/12/2020 02:47

We had this and after a week chased estate agent said no news. Still nothing after 10 days so I messaged solicitor cc'ing estate agent to say survey taken place but no news yet. Estate agent messaged me back to say yes heard from buyers, they've sent whole survey in, asked for a discount and I told them no way, they haven't replied.

I was a bit Xmas Shock at that and asked if we could have a copy of the survey or at least what urgent issues where. He wouldn't pass on survey but did pass on the 3 issues, one was obvious to buyer and said to EA on viewing but again EA didn't tell us so already factored in. Other two were maybe £2,500 combined so not that much.

So check with EA.

I thought so but over 2 weeks later got a call saying they will only consider discussing the condition 1 ratings with us if we put right along the 2’s and 3’s first. On our 100 year old house. They were told where to go.

Beagled · 20/12/2020 07:57

I would chase it with EA ASAP just so you know where you stand.
