Hi OK as others have said there's good and bad parts of Rotherham. I live in Thorpe Hesley which is nice and on the outskirts of Rotherham so very near the M1 so handy for commuting.

I’d be grateful that you couldn’t get the house. Dalton is not nice.

I wouldn't recommend buying on the waverley estate, it's built on the site of the old orgreave mine.

Whiston is nice, as are aston and anston. Steer clear of Dinnington and kiveton. Dronfield is souless. But I'd definitely recommend more out barnsley way - very pretty and much better prices.

Dalton has a bad rep - drugs and gangs and stabbings...no thanks.

I'd rent in an area for at least a year before buying - that way you know where the rough bits are.

Dronfield is lovely. It’s like a little village. Nice schools too. And it’s not in Rotherham, it’s near Chesterfield.

Manvers and Wath won't be close enough to Sheffield. Thorpe Hesley which someone else mentioned, is lovely. I looked round the school for a job and thought I'd like to send my children there (the children were hypothetical at the time). You could look at the Waverley estate if you like new builds.
I am at sheffield uni, am there in 23 mins with a 2 minute drive from swinton train station, or if I drive to parkgate (10 mins) am there in 22 mins via the train tram which costs £4.20 day saver which is cheaper than parking/fuel. Or it's about 7 mins to junction 36 of the M1. Probably just over the 15 miles but you get a lot of house for your money out here, the schools are good, there is loads of green spaces and it's much nicer than such as Dalton or anything else around that area. Wickersley is nice but the houses are expensive for what they are, lots of ex council or 1960s etc. Dh is from wickersley and we discounted it when looking to move for those reasons. Thorpe Hesley is nice tho, also Chapeltown is cheap and sheffield city centre is close.

I personally would avoid the development you refer to at Dalton. Dalton itself does not have the best reputation & the estate its attached to has had a bad reputation. Not sure if this is still the case but I looked to see where this development was & the location put me off. Alternatively Gleeson have another, pricier development at Swinton/Kilnhurst which is better located & roughly a 10 min drive into Rotherham in good traffic. Hope this helps.
