How to dismantle this bathroom tap? Any ideas?

I've got a tap that is leaking quite badly. I've looked online and it looks like it should be a fairly simple repair - take out a little grub screw, lift off the handle part and then undo the nut below. However, once the screw is out, the handle just won't budge, it doesn't even feel slightly loose.
Has anyone any experience of sorting out a tap like this? Am I missing something simple?
I thought it might be worth asking before admitting defeat and calling out a plumber!
Thank you

May need a little bit of effort if it hasn't been removed since fitting.

Unscrew the tap arm and look in the hole where you may find a grub screw

I thought it might be something to do with the arm, but that is very tightly attached and doesn't seem to unscrew. I'll have another go at trying to unscrew it with a wrench when I get home tonight. Maybe it's just very tightly screwed because it's not been undone for years. Thank you.

Spray some WD40 and leave it overnight ?

Be sure to wrap it very tightly with rage or similar or you scratch the chrome

Good point!!! Thank you

Lol obviously I meant rags not rage!

NannyR · 16/12/2020 19:34

There has certainly been some rage involved in trying to get this bloody thing apart!! It looks such an easy job on the youtube videos I've watched!!

It's good to have a go, but often with plumbing the consequences of breaking the thing involved, in your case a tap, and the failure of the tap to resemble the internet instructions, or obey them, means I end up calling a plumber.

I've admitted defeat! The tap arm won't unscrew so don't know what else to try.

I had a kitchen mixer tap and to get that apart you removed the grub screw and turned the arm completely to the left (or maybe right) and pulled it upwards.

Couldn't manage to post the link but look on YouTube at;

Is there a brand name or logo on the tap? Some do get stuck in place and can't be removed.

Removing and replacing the tap could be cheaper than a plumber if you can't undo the handle.
