Toilet Sink Combo - unhygienic/impractical?

Looking at space saving ideas for my tiny bathroom and I’ve seen these toilet with sinks above. I like the idea to reuse the water into the cistern end it certainly would save space.

But usually the sink has your toothbrush holder, soap etc on it. Isn’t it a bit gross to have that directly above the toilet? I can’t imagine I would remember to shut the toilet seat lid every time I flushed.

Also how is it practical to brush your teeth/wash your face in a sink when you have to lean over the toilet?

Am I missing something?

I don’t think they are meant for a bathroom, more like a cloak room set up where you just need to wash your hands, not clean your teeth wash face etc.

Ideal standard do a range of compact bathroom sanitary ware. Have a look.

I agree with @dontcallmelen, I think they can be a good idea that allows you to squeeze a downstairs cloakroom in a small space downstairs where all you're doing is washing your hands. I personally wouldn't want one in a main bathroom.

I have a tiny bathroom, fitted the worlds smallest bath 1200 long with a shower above a wall hung bath sink/drawer unit with a really large mirror above it so helps feel more spacious & the smallest projection W.C i could find so utilises the space available.

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 15/12/2020 19:34

Those are for cupboards which have been converted to a W.C.
It just isnt practical when you need to use it for washing.

Also, doeant really matter if your toothbrush is directly above the toilet or a meter to the side. If you're not putting the seat down before you flush then its spraying germs all over. You should really shut the lid (although I'm sure no one has ever fallen really ill. The remote control for your TV is probably dirtier).

They're cold water only - does that bother you?

yearinyearout · 15/12/2020 19:42

Have you seen the space saving toilets that go in a corner?

RunningFromInsanity · 15/12/2020 19:48

Ah sounds like not suitable for the main bathroom then.

And no I didn’t realise they were cold water only.

We have one as a downstairs loo in a small utility room, which works well. But no you wouldn't want one in a main bathroom, there wouldn't be a way you could wash your face.

WombatChocolate · 16/12/2020 17:08

There are some that are hot and cold water.
Agree they are suitable for a downstairs loo or an en-suite at a real push.

opinionatedfreak · 16/12/2020 19:35

They have them in the Bloc hotel at Gatwick.

The sink is tiny and the bathrooms in general are really badly designed so water goes everywhere.
