Does this sound unreasonable to you???

We had our house on the market and in June a couple put in a full asking price offer for the house as they were desperate for it. We had put a completion date to them last week of 26th Oct and they told us they weren't ready to move yet!! We have had a message from our solicitor today to say that the date they want to move is 23rd Nov. The reason behind this is they are going on holiday. I'm really peeved about this as they were desp to move in June and now they are dragging their feet. I mean what about the other 3 weeks between now and them going on holiday. Does anyone else think I'm being unreasonable to get this date moved forward or am I just being a pain in the arse?

Thanks if you got to the end!!

Does it inconvenience you to wait until Nov? If so, don't agree but it may lose you the sale. Look at the bigger picture, won't bother you when you are in your new house but I would get all the info from your solicitor and make it clear you won't be messed around. Clearly they don't want to leave their new house while they go off on hols, but that isn't your problem.

BTW Someone is looking for you. Not sure if in chat or the classifieds.

I think I would put up with it!

We accepted an offer on our house at the of July and since then had our chain broken 3 times by the person at the bottom.

We have now given up and put ours back on the market, but it is much harder to sell your house this time of year than it is the summer, so if I were you I would put up with it.

Are the people you are buying from ok to wait? if not then you can use them as an excuse... but watch you don't lose your sale.

We are having to bridge to get the house we want as they can't wait and we know that it would get snapped up if they put it back on the market...

I have decided that we will never ever move again once we finally do move... (and I would like this thread kept for future reference)...

Hi NAB3, it doesn't inconvience me, just really pisses me off how desperate they are in June and now they keep us hanging. I suppose i'm just really impatient and want to get into my new house!!

If you're not too inconvenienced then agree to the new completion date (subject to the rest in the chain agreeing) but you should push for contracts to be exchanged asap.

NAB3 · 22/10/2007 16:56

Call their bluff then. Say original date or it is off.

heifer - How awful for you. The same thing happened to us last year. We had 3 sales all fall through for no reason and we lost our dream house. We decided that autumn/winter time was also a bad time to sell and put our house back on the market January this year. I think that is the reason why i'm being so impatient, we've been trying to move for the past 2 years and i've really fallen out of love with the house i'm in just now. The people we are buying off are alright to wait so I suppose i'll just have to wait.

To make matters worse - as we thought we would be moving around now - my DH went and found a job near where we are moving too (which is around 4 hrs away)..

So DD and I are stuck here and DH is living with his brother during the week and coming home at weekends.

We need to move soon so I can apply for a school as DD is due to start in September....

Everything looked so rosy in the summer, we had an offer within 3 weeks and really wish we didn't wait so long for the chaint to get back together..

Fingers crossed for a quick sale now (only went back on Saturday so not panicing just yet)....

heifer · 22/10/2007 17:04

even if you dont move until November, at least you will be sorted before Christmas..

Good luck with it all.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 22/10/2007 17:07

I remember when we bought this house (our 1st one) and had had to give notice to landlord for place we were renting etc and timed it so we didn't have to pay rent and mortgage as we were skint from buying the house, deposit etc.

Then the people we were buying the house from wanted us to move early as they wanted to move into their new house as the DH was going away and wanted the bathroom of new house decorated before he went away and didn't want it left to his wife!!! I was grrrr and then told them we would move early if they covered the mortgage payment for those extra few weeks - which they did! So, be firm - you never know where it may get you!

CarGirl · 22/10/2007 17:11

providing they will exchange then I would accept, if they won't exchange then I'd be

LIZS · 22/10/2007 17:31

Unless it jeopardises your purchase or causes you a real problem you may have to go with it for the sake of keeping the sale. Get them to exchange now though.

Arransmummy · 22/10/2007 17:36

I've just spoken to the solicitor and they are going to exchange. At least it saves worrying about it falling through.
