Is a white/grey marble effect laminate a bad idea?

Planning a new kitchen and don't have a huge budget. Looking at navy units with a white/grey marble effect laminate worktop. But we are very heavy handed in the kitchen with frequent spillages of stain inducing ingredients. Is a white work top a really bad idea?

@PresentingPercy

Some alternatives. There’s a concrete look and speckle or plain white of course. I think the marble is spot on.
Actually I look at the interiors of more properties IRL than most people. The alternatives you have presented are definitely more contemporary.

That’s why someone having a new kitchen should consider them. What’s the point of being 20 years behind the times when laminates have moved on?

There's laminate and there's laminate. Laminates these days include slim profile, square edged, reinforced edge, and ultra thin solid laminate. Personally I think the square reinforced edge, thin (25mm ish) profile is the way to go these days.

Have to say I like the look of that Formica though.

Where did you get the Formica @Slightlydustcovered?

Slightlydustcovered · 11/12/2020 21:31

@IndecentFeminist. We got it from a place called Morland I think they are based in Wales, they do lots of Formica topped ply. If you go on to the Formica website they send you free samples of the different colours etc and this is your finished top. It comes in big sheets which you need to have someone who can cut it down but this gives loads of flexibility for shapes etc. Out peninsula is 2.5m by 1.2m and is all one big piece. We have had enough left over to complete the utility and some shelving. Plus we are planning on building a shoe rack in the boot nook as the kids could sit on it. In all we are really pleased with it and it's something just a little different to the everyday.

Thank you very much, will investigate 👍

We have formica, really like your choice slightly! It's so stain resilient. Curry sauce, anything, a spray of cif lifts it. Like you I got the samples. I put everything I could on those samples and could not get a stain to set. We have a few knife marks but I do live with Edward Scissorhands.
