Doing work on house to make it easier to see view...

We have a view out front, across trees to a church tower and houses on a slightly higher ground. When lit by the sun in the evening it’s lovely. But there’s no where to sit and appreciate it, you have to stand and look out the windows or the front door.

Out the back if I stand on tiptoes in the attic I can see hills. We could put a bigger velux in with a view but shape of roof makes it difficult and expensive. And it’s a room we don’t particularly use.

The front view I could put a chair in the window. The back view I’m undecided if it’s worth it.

We have a small back garden which is super sunny but enclosed.

Have you done work to create a view?

Your house sounds lovely!

We designed our loft conversion done in our previous house around a view. We put in a large 1600 x 1600 picture window that looked over our long garden with large mature trees and backed onto a cricket pitch (as close to a view as you get where I am). I used to love sitting and looking out with a cup of tea in the morning, it was like being in a tree house and it was definitely worth the effort. There's something lovely about watching the seasons change too.

In my imaginary dream home I have a huge comfy window seat overlooking the North York Moors that I can sit with a book and a cup of tea under a blanket in the winter.

We were in a house without a view for ten years and then moved to our current rental with an absolutely phenomenal view. We have to move out and our number 1 criteria was a house with a view - I know now what I was missing out on all those years! I spend so much time looking at the view, it makes the house so lovely to live in.

Any chance of a dormer window in the attic and then a seating area (possibly up a small step to get the view) and then make that room more comfortable as cosy snug/reading room (if you don't use it much at the moment)?

My friend in Derbyshire has similar - view to the front - the garden drops away over about 40m to the road, but nowhere to appreciate it from. She did 2 things, firstly built a small 'front patio' in the corner of the front garden by the house, surrounded it from next door (which is higher up) by tall shrubs and potted bamboo, a little stepping stone path across the frontage from the front door, and bought a lovely oak 'companion set' - with table between, and some pots of flowering plants. Ideal for them to sit and enjoy the view. Then inside - it's a lounge -diner but the diner is at the front of the house as is the kitchen - her DH has built a low storage unit below the window , it's perhaps a couple of feet deep, and the end with the best view, it has an upright 'end' to lean back against (chaise lounge style), this has been carefully upholstered to tie in with the sofa and curtains, and is super comfy, you could seat 3 there too, and underneath is a largeish cupboard. We always migrate there for a cup of coffee if too chilly to sit out (the view is awesome), but I know my friend likes to sit there and knit/crochet due to the light and the view.

Could you build an outdoor balcony? Maybe at the height of the first floor. Terrace on top of a garage?

The attic doesn't sound worth it, as it seems the front view means more to you.
