Saving money on an extension

Hey! We're planning a double storey extension, adding a bedroom and ensuite and kitchen.

We've had a few rough quotes of around 35-40k I was wondering if those quotes would include things like radiators, windows etc.

Has anyone got any tips of savings anywhere on their extension I was thinking things like 2nd hand lintel.

I got a second hand rsj for an extension , my cousin got it off a site he was at ( said they had loads of them that had been taken out ) I gave him 30 quid for bringing it home , i had to cut it and it was a lot bigger/ heavier than I needed but it did the job.
Saved about £150. If you've got the time to source and shop around for the best price you can save money at every stage ,

I live oop norf and am always amazed when people say how much their extension costs I assume down south.

Same here when I see some of the prices of what people pay for extensions I think jeez........😮

Our single storey was £75k.

Does your quote include VAT?

Why ask here? Ask the builders what is included! Everyone is telling you it sounds cheap - so on that assumption it's a shell. But any quote you get should have a nuts and bolts breakdown of costs and materials.

Sure you could buy a plot of land for that, but you couldn't build a house worth living in on it.

We are having a large extension built at the moment for circa 90k. We are getting a lot for that money though, two storeys to the side and single across the rear. That is only to plastered shell though.
