House move and/or storage

Thanks

We had a bad experience. Basically they are like Airbnb or Uber - they contract out to a guy with a van and so take no real responsibility if the person they hire doesn't do things right. Your contract is really between you and the third-party, but you have no direct relationship with the third-party until they show up. AnyVan's marketing is quite misleading in that respect I think.

They are very cheap and if you are just looking for someone to move something of low value from A to B, it might work out fine and save you money. But for anything important or valuable or complicated (e.g. a fridge which must be transported upright), I'd hire someone directly.

We have used them to collect eBay items. They are not bad but not great. So far items have always been transported with good care. Communication with the drivers is sometimes difficult. Punctuality is also not great at times. We usually don't mind so much on our end but when they need collect an item from someone and say they will be there at 3pm and then show up at 7pm I feel responsible for that.

I really would not use them for a house move. They are OK for moving of small things like an item of furniture but there is absolutely no way that I would use them for a house move as I just don't think the service is professional enough and it all depends on who turns up for the day.

I've used them to move a bed and a dining table to a relative and they were fine for that. But it is a basic service.

Thank you all for feedback. I'll be looking elsewhere.

We used someone we used on anyvan to move us twice in one year. The guys we chose had a lot of good reviews, they worked their socks off and I recommended them to friends who used them and were also happy. The little guys can't afford the big insurance policies so you could think that means they will be more careful than the guy who works for Pickford's who knows the firm will pay for the clock the dropped. Who knows really?

UglyHoose · 02/12/2020 20:47

I used Pickfords for a move, it cost me best part of three grand for a move and pack, they were slow and not that great.

A year later I found someone on Anyvan and they were unbelievably good.

They were literally running with furniture. I was worried that they might not turn up at all as this was during the 'beast from the east' and they were coming from Ipswich to Northants/Beds border so a hell of a distance. If I could find the details I would happily recommend.

I've used them a lot in London (for small jobs) and have never had a problem.

Look carefully at the feedback for the drivers that bid on your job. Pick those with a lot of strong positive feedback and good insurance cover for peace of mind.

They are awful and I think the reviews on trust pilot are somehow engineered. I have read elsewhere many bad reviews yet they have thousands of positive reviews which don't seem to add up.

I had booked a kingsize mattress to be shipped and had asked for two people to be able to carry it. A driver arrrived and said he couldn’t carry it. Anyvan have refused to book the shipment without further cost to me and have also refused to refund me. Be careful. This site is a rip off and they take your money before a service has been provided. I would definitely not use them again!

Used them to move furniture, very helpful booking system (apart from wanting to know how much your wardrobe weighs!). Generally they were fine, a bit slow but would use again for heavy items I couldn’t fit in the car.

I've just used them to move boxes into storage as I'm redoing my kitchen.
The first day scheduled they were running late - too late as storage place would have been closed ( I was told this as you can track your driver) and the office was fine about changing it. The next day I had a tight window and they came at the very end. You have to be extremely specific about what and how many things you want them to move - one was a suitcase that I just included in the medium box count and he said I hadn't listed it. I also said the sofa arms came off but they didn't seem to understand that they had to do that - they had no tools.
But anyway they moved the stuff, they didn't exactly put the stuff in the storage unit with any particular sense - they didn't stack the boxes well. The guy also said to call him privately to move the sofa as it would be cheaper, but he's let me down twice now and his price was only a few ponds cheaper. It's still in my kitchen!
I'd use them again but it's the luck of the draw who you get, I wouldn't use them for a house move though, and I don't really think they are set up for that. More like if you needed to move a piano or one bulky item (like my sofa...)
