Conveyancing solicitor

I accepted an offer on my house 10 days ago and my buyer still hasn't got a solicitor according to the agent. Is it really taking that long to instruct one? I found one in a couple of days?

My mortgage advisor is asking for the sales memo to progress my application but I haven't got it as my buyer hasn't got a solicitor 🙄

It Doesn’t take long at all , my buyer got his solicitor through the estate agent selling my house, the day after offer, so I would be speaking to your estate agent and telling them if he hasn’t got one sorted in the next 24 hours you are showing other viewers around because you don’t think he’s serious.

Also your estate agent is working for you so they should be pushing him too.

Yeah it takes about a day

We went with the firm our agents suggested, we knew who we were going with before our offer was accepted (lined up from our sale) but it still took nearly 2 weeks for them to officially be acting for us for the sale. I told them we'd offered on somewhere and they sent the paperwork (took a few days) which we then had to complete and return and they had to process and allocate a named person. So I'd say it depends do they not have anyone at all? Or have they just not done the draft contracts yet? We were warned that everyone in the process is very busy at the moment due to the stamp duty holiday so to expect things to take longer.

Doesn't take that long we also went with a firm that our estate agents who's selling our house suggested.
We had asked the estate agents who we are buying a house with but the one they recommended didn't get back to us so we then went and asked our estate agent for recommendations and went with them.

I also went through my estate agents recommendation with a solicitor for the house I am buying and so did my buyer, it's good to do this one because it's a recommendation but also the EA chases the solicitor if you're struggling to get them moving.

We struggled to find a solicitor - took us over a week, most of the local firms are so busy they aren't accepting anymore cases. Thankfully our Estate Agent was able 'introduce us' to one of the local solicitors so they took us on (EA really wanted us to avoid using the conveyancing company the mortgage company directed us to).
