Boiling water taps! Talk to me!

All those who own one - which one is it? What did it cost, and would you recommend it?

It's on my wish list for our new kitchen hopefully next year, but they're expensive so I want to get it right!

Don't want chilled water; am hoping to install some kind of whole-house filtration system (any tips on that pls also throw my way) so don't think I need filtered either, just boiling, cold and hot. Happy with some kind of brushed silver metal look.

TIA Smile

Watching with interest our new house has one and I've always been unconvinced about them and have always thought they're dangerous. But DH has pointed out we wont need a kettle so maybe I'm slightly coming round to the idea.

yellowstoneranch · 27/11/2020 22:37

We've got the quooker, with the sparking / still water filter extra bit. Love it but it does take up a whole cupboard underneath

tiredteenmother · 27/11/2020 22:39

We didn't stretch to quarker but went for a quettle. I love it. DH who was sceptical loves it. Especially as we're at home all the time you easily make a cuppa no faffing. It comes out a bit bubbly sometimes and if you're filling up a big pan it spits a bit but it's so brilliant and convenient. We got the up to 6 mug size.

MojoMoon · 27/11/2020 22:48

We have them in the office - they are great when they work - sparkling water as well as boiling - but they seem to break quite a lot! The facilities manager has become a dab hand at fixing them.
Not sure brand it is though

Quooker with the 3 litre tank. Fabulous! We had a Franke before that had a lot of issues. To be fair Franke were amazing and gave us a full refund 2 years after purchase. Doesn’t come close to the Quooker though. We just have hot, cold and boiling. Even DH who said what a waste of money is a convert!

Oreservoir · 28/11/2020 06:01

Do you wash up using the boiling water tap? Or is there a separate tap?

Blue5238 · 28/11/2020 08:12

Had a separate Quooker in my old house, and normal kitchen tap with hose.advantage was keeping the pull out hose tap to clean sink and still having Quooker too.
Then moved and redid kitchen in new place with a franke omni 4 in 1.. Partly because it came in copper finish to match rest of kitchen and Quooker didn't. I miss my pull out kitchrn tap a bit but convenient to have one unit.
All are pretty much impossible for a child to turn on so not a safety worry.... Whereas a child can pull a kettle flex and destabilise the kettle.
Great for cups of tea, but also for cooking.... So quick to get pasta water ready when it comes out of boiling tap

HBGKC · 28/11/2020 08:18

Thank you all.

I hadn't realised they'd take up a lot of under-counter space; presumably that could be under the draining-board.

I'd also quite like a pull-out hose tap, but maybe that's pushing it... I'm thinking of having my sink on the island, so maybe it would end up looking too busy with two taps.

Food for thought!

What about maintenance, changing filters etc? I think Quaker offers a comprehensive but pricey aftercare system (tho if I have a whole-house filtration unit presumably that's the only filter I'll need to deal with 🤞

Had a Quettle installed a couple of weeks ago. Loving it so far! Much cheaper than the brand leader and a British company. Make sure you choose one that dispenses 100 degree boiling water - some of the cheaper ones don't.

bestbefore · 28/11/2020 09:11

I have a qooker - have had it 5 years and been fine so far, I think I've had one service.
You pump it twice and twist for boiling water so quite safe and then use the lever for hot and cold like a normal modern tap. The stuff under the sink takes up abt a quarter of a double sink cupboard ( full height, no drawer units).
It's great!

WhereOnEarthDoIStart · 28/11/2020 10:06

We have a Groehe that cost 600 on sale on Amazon. Had it for 3 years - no problem.

Was looking at new ones - they were still under 1k and look to take less room under the counter.

The "Duo" ones do all three in one tap - hot, cold and boiling

tripsandfalls · 28/11/2020 10:35

You do need room under the sink though. Genuinely excellent though. This is the bigger size of Quettle.

Literally just took moved back into our renovated house yesterday complete with Franke tap. One combined tap - so one side regular hot and cold and other side chilled or boiling. Love it so far and eve safety mechanism makes accidents basically impossible

Hopeandglory · 28/11/2020 14:13

i have a 4 in 1 quettle too. Filters far cheaper than other brands and no problems with it in the year that we have had it.

minipie · 28/11/2020 16:32

We chose the Quooker Flex as it’s the only one that comes with a flex hose so did everything we wanted, and I liked the look of it best. It was the most expensive though, of course.... It does hot, cold and boiling.

We also have the scale filter as we have hard water, though not sure how crucial that is. It’s not the same as filtered drinking water (I think) but we get that from our fridge anyway.

The tank doesn’t take up the whole cabinet. It takes up a smallish chunk at the back (the cylinder is about the height of the space under the sink and about 20cm diameter). We had bespoke drawers made to fit around it so we could use the under sink space to the maximum.

Very happy with it.

Twospaniels · 28/11/2020 20:39

We have an Insinkerator boiling hot water tap and are very happy with it. The tank in the cupboard below doesn’t take up that much room and there is always enough to fill a pan for cooking beg or whatever.

GlamGloria · 28/11/2020 20:53

I have the Quooker flex with limescale filter and it's absolutely brilliant. Would absolutely recommend

pompey38 · 28/11/2020 20:58

Best thing ever, looking at £2-3k if you pick Quooker, the other brands are cheaper

HBGKC · 28/11/2020 22:03

£2-3k?! I Googled earlier and found a site with the Flex for £1100-1600 depending on finish/tank size; maybe there's a whole other level of special-ness I haven't even found yet!

Grobagsforever · 29/11/2020 12:54

Franke was £700

BluebellsGreenbells · 29/11/2020 12:56

You don’t need tow taps, they now come as one
