Colour with charcoal grey bathroom tiles

Our bathroom has charcoal grey tiles in the walk in shower along with above sink and along the windowsills. The rest of the room is painted white and the floor is a cheap pale grey vinyl - we were decisioned out after a full house refurb!

The room feels cold and needs more character so looking at artwork and we've added plants and greenery but the only other obvious thing is to think about is other accessories like towels. When we first did the work, we had mustard bath mat and hand towels (white others).

My dad has just redone his bathroom in pale grey with mustard accessories and knowing his typical decor style, I can't help but worry we've now got something very unfashionable Grin

Considered painting the walls another colour but couldn't picture what would work best. We went white initially as we knocked toilet and bathroom together and the ceiling height wasn't exactly lined up so when re-plastered it looks a bit wavy which isn't great.

So, what colour towels would you go for? Any other tips to "warm up" the room?

I'm not keen on mustard personally, although a paler lemon yellow might be nice. And if your walls are uneven I'd probably stick with the white on them, at least until you've tried to add as much colour with accessories as you can first.

I think warmer blues and greens work well with grey tones and white (maybe a duck egg blue or a sage green?) If you've already added texture and interest with plants and artwork; accessories like coloured fluffy towels and matts and things like matching coloured refillable soap/lotion bottles and colourful display candles are the other cheap and easy way to lift a cold feeling bathroom.

Pale pink would look nice, with black industrial accessories like shelves etc? Warm but not girly

Turquoise

I have a very similar sounding bathroom - have had a photo I took of cliffs on the coast of Wales printed on board and hung that in there. I picked up a misty/sage green from that for the towels. It looks really good (I think!)

Do you have photos? Sometimes easier when you see it

If it's just painting th walls which can be cheaply and quickly changed go bold.
I would do bright orange.

We went with dark teal from John Lewis. They're a little brighter than the online pics.

Hard to get a good picture but this is with a teal coloured hand towel i picked up this week to try. Although for some reason it looks grey in this pic!

I hadn't thought of sage green before and I like the sound of that.

We had the same - our bathroom was white as that's the colour the builder painted it and it felt cold. Painted it a green grey colour in the crown bathroom range (colour mixed in the moisture recent range) and it feels warmer.

I woudl go with painting the wall - either a warmer yellow tone thats lighter than mustard -which can be a bit 'dark' or Pink - not too pale more rose ?? / Little greene dorchester pink is a lovely neutral pink

I would suggest getting F&B and little greene paint cars as they are a good representation of their colours- and you can see what works in the light...
I have gone for hellebore (copy at leyland paints) for the same reason ... getting painted in xmas holidays so fingers crossed!

my previous colour was f&B french grey - which is more green in my room.... I loved amazing colour but had it for 10yrs and fancied a change.......you have to be careful with light in bathrooms as often more electric light than natural! with teh french grey i had orange towels/mat! as dc picked them...actally worked quite well in a clashing sort of way..
with the hellebore am going for white

Your bathroom is lovely @Sew3stitch, just quite plain/neutral like you said.

I love the idea of Teal with the white and dark grey - but I think it does need to be a bright/lighter Teal (the towel colour is nice, but it looks fairly dark in the photo so won't add as much "lift" to the room as a brighter colour).

It is pretty though and if you love it, you could look for some artwork to put on the plain wall next to the mirror that incorporates the darker teal colour as well as other brighter tones/colours - that would work to help lift the room more I think.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Been looking through Pinterest at some of the colour combinations and definitely think some artwork is needed.

I personally prefer to keep bathroom walls white and add colour with art and accessories - get an art work you love (that isn’t too expensive/a priceless family heirloom - damp not ideal for those!) and pick up a colour from it for the towels. The green towel is nice, but might be worth trying something lighter/brighter.

There's plenty of space for some pictures as there is the wall in the photo plus the opposite wall which is completely bare other than the door opens onto it. The wall to the left has 2 windows because of the old separate loo situation.

I'd really love some of those patterned floor tiles but can't face the disruption with young kids right now.
